The Duchess of Sussex could take a break from maternity leave to attend Trooping the Colour next week, reports suggest.

Meghan, 37, is currently taking time off from royal duties following the birth of her son Archie on 6 May.

However several media outlets, including Hello!, have suggested the new mother might join her husband Prince Harry, 34, and other senior royals including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for the event marking the Queen's official birthday.

If she does, Meghan will be following the lead of sister-in-law Kate, 36, who made an appearance at last year's ceremony despite being on maternity leave with Louis.

Kensington Palace declined to comment.

The Duchess of Sussex carried out her last official engagements in March.

She joined senior royals for a Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey on 11 March and made a second appearance at Canada House that same day.

A week later the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited New Zealand House, in London, to sign a condolence book and pay their respects following the Christchurch terror attacks.

While Meghan was subsequently spotted on a private outing in Notting Hill, her next official appearance was when she and Harry introduced Archie to the world at Windsor Castle two days after his birth on 8 May.

Trooping the Colour, which marks Her Majesty's official birthday, falls on Saturday 8 June this year, when Archie will be almost five weeks old.

The celebration is attended by members of the royal family, who traditionally watch an RAF flypast from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

The Duchess of Cambridge was first seen just three weeks after Prince Louis' birth last year when she attended the royal wedding on 15 May.

Kate made a handful of other appearances while technically still on maternity leave, including Trooping the Colour in June, Prince Louis' Christening in July and the RAF Centenary celebrations that same month.

She officially returned to public duties in early October, when Prince Louis was five months old.

Kensington Palace has never confirmed the duration of the Duchess of Sussex's maternity leave.

However it is thought she will return to duties full time in the autumn. There has previously been speculation that her first official appearance will be the annual summit for One Young World in October.
