Robert Pattinson lands new Batman role after battling against Nicholas Hoult to play the coveted superhero
He fought for the ultimate role as the famed Caped Crusader.
And Warner Bros. has officially approved Robert Pattinson as the star in The Batman, according to Deadline.
The 33-year-old former Twilight star had to battle his way through screen testing against Nicholas Hoult to portray the coveted superhero.

The studio was reportedly at odds over who they wanted to front the trilogy of films Matt Reeves is set to direct as both actors put on an impressive run for the role.
The Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez revealed on Twitter Thursday that both Pattinson, 33, and Hoult, 29, are testing for the role.

Gonazalez added that, 'the film will now start production in Q1 2020,' giving the studio the rest of 2019 to secure the cast.
Variety broke the news earlier this month that Pattinson was the studio's top contender, and that report also mentioned that pre-production is expected to begin this summer.
Warner Bros. has already set aside a June 25, 2021 release date for The Batman, which will be written and directed by Matt Reeves (War For the Planet of the Apes).

The Batman was originally set to bring back Ben Affleck reprising the title character from 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017's Justice League.
Affleck was also set to direct the superhero adventure and he was co-writing the script with Geoff Johns.
Matt Reeves came aboard to take over as the writer and director, and it was confirmed in January that Ben Affleck was stepping away from the franchise entirely.

Affleck responded to the news on Twitter, stating, 'Excited for in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life.'
The Deadline report in January revealed that Warner Bros. was searching for a younger actor to play the Caped Crusader, which is certainly true with Pattinson and Hoult in the mix.

Pattinson starred in two indie films this spring, High Life, which debuted in April, and The Lighthouse, which premiered at Cannes earlier this month.
Hoult starred in the biopic of Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien, dubbed Tolkien, and he also stars in the X-Men superhero adventure Dark Phoenix on June 7.
Hoult also has The Banker and The True History of the Kelly Gang in post-production.
