Val Kilmer takes center stage in rare public appearance at his TwainMania fundraiser in LA

Val Kilmer doesn't make public appearances often, and when he does, he makes them count.

The Tombstone star, 59, was front and center at a fundraiser for his Mark Twain-inspired nonprofit TwainMania at Sky Lane in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The one-time Batman donned a spruce leather jacket with grey jeans and black work boots. Val, who has past battled throat cancer, wore a light scarf around his neck on the overcast day.

Others in attendance at the event included actor Ed Begley Jr., singer-songwriter Wendy Starland, model Shay Londre, beauty influencer Shalini Vadhera and nutrition expert Mascha Davis.

The Wonderland actor, who was joined by his son Jack at the luxe gathering, opened up to The Hollywood Reporter in February about the impact Twain (and Mary Baker Eddy) have had as the creative force behind his one-man play Citizen Twain.

'Twain and Eddy are so crucial, in my opinion, to the nation and the world’s progress, that this validation of their value doesn’t have as much to do with me as it does an example of that "mirror up to nature" Shakespeare reminds us is the healing power in acting,' he said, adding that 'acting saves lives.'

The organization's mission, according to its website, is to use 'art and education to inspire people of all backgrounds and ages to learn what it means to be an American, through the legacy and lessons of Mark Twain.'
