The city was thrown into chaos as police forced areas in-and-around the CBD into lockdown in search of the shooter on Tuesday night. A 45-year-old man, who was known to police and was released on parole earlier this year, was arrested after about an hour of terror that involving five locations. The suspected shooter has been identified as the son of a respected Darwin family who reportedly fell in with a 'bad crowd'. In the days before the shooting, the heavily-tattooed man was fired from his job at a roofing company after he failed to show up for work. His mother had tried to help her son, the man's former boss said. The suspect, covered in blood, was arrested in dramatic style by police in camouflage gear (left).

A Qantas flight from Bali to Sydney descended into chaos on Tuesday when a woman refused to get out of the toilet and the plane landed with her still inside. The woman locked herself in the bathroom on flight QF44 from Denpasar before the flight began to descend.  Flight attendants repeatedly banged on the door and shouted at her to get out and sit down, but the woman refused.
