Rihanna 'rents an entire ISLAND in Essex to record her new album'... after revealing she's been secretly living in London for a year

Rihanna has reportedly rented an island in Essex to record her new album.

A source told The Mirror that the songstress, 31, has splashed out on a lavish studio on the Osea Island, which is owned by music producer Nigel Frieda.

It comes after Rihanna stunned fans with the news that she had been secretly living in London for a year and said she was enjoying the relative anonymity that came with living in the city.

The source said: 'Rihanna has invited family to spend time with her while she works. She's had a few stints in the studio since her last album, but she's been really focused on her makeup, clothing and lingerie lines.

'But since she moved to London, she has had friends and family staying with her so she can work at her own pace, surrounded by the people she loves.'

Osea Island is home to the Miloco Studios, which had been long been used as a private space for musicians to work on their craft, and is its own little haven as it can only be reached twice a day for four hours at a time thanks to tidal waves.

The publication also claimed that Rihanna's studio boasts a gym, cinema and pool, as well as separate cottages for her entourage.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Rihanna and Essex County Council for comment.

It comes after Rihanna casually revealed that she's been living in London for a year, telling The New York Times that she's been 'keeping a little incognito' while staying in the capital and is enjoying the relative anonymity the city brings.

The star said: '[I enjoy] walking around the block. When I go walking, I try to keep it a little incognito,' adding that she finds Bank Holidays 'insane' [in a good way].

On learning of the move, Brits have gone wild with excitement - with many joining the dots from last week, when the star shared a selfie which had a supermarket bag from Sainsbury's in the backdrop.

Shocked to see that the R'n'B star - worth an estimated $260 million - even knew about the British chain, comments materialised on Instagram to the tune of: 'I honestly never thought I would see Rihanna next to a Sainsbury's bag.'
