'When he went up and knocked on the car, he observed the driver and the victim in the back seat of the car,' Cpl. Shawn Vinson, of the Baltimore County Police Department.

The father exchanged 'words' with the driver who threw his daughter's pocketbook at him, got back into the front seat, and drove off, according to CBS

The father took his daughter out of the car and called police.

Baltimore County Police are investigating the allegations as a rape case.

Corporal Shawn Vinson described the investigation as 'very active' and 'fluid'.

'This is a very serious allegation. It's a very serious incident. The father of the victim called police,' Vinson said, adding the victim is cooperating with police.

'This is an on-going investigation. Uber has worked closely with our detectives in this matter. We will release more information as the investigation progresses but it is vital at this time to withhold specific details to allow our detectives to continue their investigation,' Vinson said to DailyMail.com.

Authorities believe the Saturday attack is an isolated incident and do not believe there are other victims.

No charges have been filed yet in this case.

Uber officials have released a statement condemning the incident, adding that the driver has been fired.

'What’s been reported is appalling beyond words. We removed the driver from the app as soon as this was reported to us. We will work with police on their investigation,' Uber said to DailyMail.com.

Police are not sure if the driver works for other ride-share apps.

In 2017, Uber placed safeguards to prevent sexual assault and to keep riders safe, including adding a way to dial 911 through the app.

Uber also implemented annual checks of criminal and motor vehicle records of the drivers. Customers also have the option to designate friends and family to track their rides.

The safety measures where set in place after an April 2018 report found that over 100 Uber and Lyft drivers had sexually assaulted passengers over the last four years.

Uber, based in San Francisco, said they're committed to publishing data on sexual assaults later this year. A date for that report release has not been set.
