Empire star Terrence Howard and his wife 'are being investigated for criminal tax evasion'

Terrence Howard and his wife are being investigated for criminal tax evasion, it has been claimed. 

The Empire actor, 50, and his wife Mira are said to have already met with federal investigators to discuss the case.

The Blast reports that the case stems out of the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. 

It also involves Universal Bridges Inc, a company owned by Mira. It is unclear how much the alleged evasion amounts to.

When contacted by DailyMail.com on Wednesday, the office would neither confirm nor deny any investigation.    

'Our office can neither confirm or deny the existence of an investigation. I don’t know to what records the story is referring, either,' a spokesman said. 

Representatives for Howard did not immediately respond to requests for comment. 

Howard has been hit with several liens in the past.

In 2010, he was served with a $1.1million tax bill, in 2006, he was given a liens for $600,000 and in April this year, he was served with a liens of $143,000. 

The star makes a reported $175,000 per episode of Empire and owns property all over the country, including a one bedroom home in Pennsylvania.'

Howard was among Empire stars to support Jussie Smollett earlier this year when he was accused of staging a hate crime. 

He shared a video of him with his son playing on a private plane, writing alongside it: 'We love the hell outta you.' 

He has not commented since Empire creator Lee Daniels confirmed on Tuesday night that Smollett would not be returning to the show. 

Howard and his wife were married first between 2013 and 2015. 

They parted ways but reconciled and became engaged again in December.
