  • Whoopi Goldberg was delighted when co-hosts Meghan McCain and Joy Behar were both out sick on The View's Monday show
  • If Goldberg had it her way, at least one of the two wouldn't be back at all, insiders at the talk show revealed exclusively to DailyMail.com
  • One said: 'Whoopi is at her breaking point with Meghan. She's been trying to hang in there, keep the peace with Meghan and Joy, but she's about to break'
  • Fans of the show praised Monday's lineup of Whoopi, Sunny Hostin, Tara Setmayer and Ana Navarro, saying: 'No toxic behavior...Perfect cast'
  • Whoopi was pleased too, saying to producers on set: 'I could get used to shows like this. You all know what the difference was today'
  • McCain has reportedly caused trouble behind the scenes, allegedly being nasty to certain producers and to the hair and makeup team

Whoopi Goldberg was noticeably exuberant on The View on Monday when warring co-hosts Meghan McCain and Joy Behar were out sick - and insiders have revealed to DailyMail.com that if Whoopi had it her way - one of them would be out for good.

Goldberg announced during the show's opening that both Behar and conservative commentator McCain were ill but 'will be back,' warning people online not to start any rumors.

But insiders revealed Whoopi is growing less tolerant of McCain's blow-ups on camera and the EGOT winner's positive energy on Monday's show was proof.

'Whoopi is at her breaking point with Meghan. She's been trying to hang in there, especially keep the peace with Meghan and Joy, but we all know she's about to break,' a source told DailyMail.com.

Beyond McCain's on-air rants and spats with co-hosts, the source said she's even more difficult behind the scenes.

The 34-year-old former Fox News commentator has reportedly developed a reputation for being nasty to certain producers, to the hair and makeup team and she regularly complains about the show's executive producers to ABC bosses.

The source said: 'Most of the producers and the award-winning glam team on our show have been here for years. I'm talking a decade-plus!

'They have survived Rosie O'Donnell, Star Jones and even Barbara Walters. So for Meghan to be causing problems for them, it says a lot about her and really isn't a reflection on them at all.'

They added: 'Even on her worst days, Whoopi tries her best to be respectful to the staff. Even if something upsets her or she snaps for some reason, she'll come back and apologize and explain herself later.

'The team at The View love working with her. So it's been extremely hard for her to see Meghan come in and really bring the moral down. All the reports of her being ''cold, icy and unpleasant'' are really mild compared to the truth of her personality.'

But moral on the show appeared to be at an all-time high on Monday and even viewers noticed the shift in Goldberg's mood.

'Whoopi is chill today because she's not busy babysitting a petulant child #TheView,' @SASSYBETCHFACE posted.

Filling in for McCain was Tara Setmayer, an ABC and CNN contributor, whom Goldberg once told on air, 'I wish you would come on here more.'

Rounding out the table was The View regular co-host Sunny Hostin and Friday host Ana Navarro.

Goldberg told producers on set, according to the source: 'I could get used to shows like this. You all know what the difference was today.'

Apparently Whoopi wasn't the only one who enjoyed Monday's combination. Viewers on Twitter celebrated the pairing as well.

'Did you notice how happy everyone was? Nobody was givin side-eye to the other hosts. It was great,' @candice7799 wrote.

'Finally a sensible conversation with sensible Republicans!! #TheView see how that went smoothly and everybody let the other one finish their sentence!!,' @lanorikabeautif wrote.

'#theview - Tara and Ana!!! Adult conversations today!! Gonna miss joy tho,' wrote @jessica_2630 with an meme of a man dancing.

'It was a great day on #theview No toxic behavior and taking the fun out of conversation. @abc Please hire Tara full time. Perfect cast. Whoopi, Joy, Sunny, Ana and Tara. The other two can go back to Fox News where they want to be,' wrote @WhitneyFan90.

'A gun control discussion with conservative and liberal views expressed with no screeching no eye-rolling, no huffing and puffing, no 'I'm [fill in the blanks] daughter.' #TheView,' wrote @VAKnightStick

Also currently missing from the show is former Fox News host Abby Huntsman, who is on maternity leave. Huntsman was selected as the new co-host for The View in September 2018, despite viewers asking for Navarro to join the show permanently and Goldberg lobbying for Setmayer.

ABC executives apparently hired Huntsman to offer some emotional support to McCain, whose polarizing presence on the show regularly receives online backlash and scrutiny, and the show's research on her scored extremely low.

The source said: 'The network felt as though hiring Meghan's best friend would make her more likable.

'So Abby was added without even a chemistry test with other co-hosts. But the presence of Abby hasn't made Meghan even more appealing to viewers, though it appears that her nasty outbursts with Joy increased the moment Abby took maternity leave.'

An irked Behar has said: 'If you want to know what white privilege looks like, this is a great example of it,' referring to ABC hiring Huntsman in an attempt to make McCain more appealing on TV.

But overall, The View's ratings are up to a four-year high with the show getting close to the ratings it scored when Goldberg and comedienne Sherri Shepherd joined the show in 2008.
