Did Kate recycle Harry's old outfit? Eagle-eyed royal fans spot Prince Louis wearing EXACTLY the same shirt as his uncle did for Trooping the Colour 30 years ago

  • The one-year-old Prince wore a traditional smocked, blue and white garment
  • It bore a striking resemblance to an outfit Prince Harry wore years ago in 1986
  • Both wore the similar outfit for their debut at Trooping the Colour in London
  • Prince George also wore an outfit similar to Prince William at his debut in 2015

Prince Louis made his Buckingham Palace debut today, wearing an outfit identical to one his uncle Prince Harry had at Trooping the Colour 30 years ago.

The one-year-old Prince, the son of Prince William and Kate Middleton, was seen sporting the traditional smocked, blue and white garment alongside a pair of blue shorts.

It left eagle-eyed viewers wondering if it is indeed exactly the same outfit Prince Harry wore at Trooping the Colour in 1986, cradled in the arms of Princess Anne.

Royal fans were quick to comment on the similarity, with one saying: 'It was a touching tribute.

'To be honest if my niece wore something from me on such an important day I’d be so happy. It’s so cute.'

While another said: 'Apparently Prince Louis wore what Harry wore when he was young. I love that royals keep their childhood outfits with them forever.'

And another joked: 'How big is the palace closet?!'

Kate is no stranger to recycling outfits, and is often seen stepping out in previously worn clothing. She was recently seen sporting an entirely recycled outfit during a visit to the Scouts in Essex.

And the habit stretches to that of dressing her children, with Prince George - at his debut Trooping the Colour - seen wearing an outfit remarkably similar to one his father Prince William had at his first in 1984.

Louis appeared a natural on the balcony in front of the crowds and when the national anthem was played the toddler prince joined the spectators in clapping.

With his older brother and sister, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, stood nearby he waved at the well-wishers enthusiastically, as did his siblings.

He carried on waving as his father carried him inside, alongside the rest of the family. Prince Charles was seen beaming at the youngster as they entered the Palace.

The day began with the Queen arriving on Horse Guards in a procession featuring a Sovereign's Escort from the Household Cavalry, made up of Life Guards and Blues and Royals, in their silver and gold breastplates and plumed helmets.

Riding on horseback behind the Queen's coach were the royal colonels: the Prince of Wales, Colonel of the Welsh Guards, the Princess Royal, Colonel of the Blues and Royals, and the Duke of Cambridge, Colonel of the Irish Guards and Duke of York, Colonel of the Grenadier Guards.

As the national anthem was played at the start of the ceremony a horse ran across the open space after apparently unseating its rider.

Watching from Wellington's former office overlooking Horse Guards were Harry, Meghan, Kate and the other royals - including the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their children the Viscount Severn and Lady Louise Windsor, Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank, Princess Beatrice and the Duke of Kent.

Meghan wore a dress by Clare Waight Keller and hat by Noel Stewart while Kate wore a favourite designer - an Alexander McQueen dress and hat by Philip Treacy.

Keen-eyed royal fans spotted that the beaming new mother was wearing a stunning third ring - which they claimed could be an eternity ring - next to her engagement and wedding rings.

Trooping the Colour is social as well as a ceremonial occasion and in the stands overlooking the parade ground were the wives, girlfriends and parents of the guardsmen and officers on parade.
