Penny Lancaster reveals she and Rod Stewart considered adopting but were deterred by their sons who insisted on 'getting a puppy instead'

She shares her two sons Alastair, 13, and eight-year-old Aidan with husband Rod Stewart, who fathers eight children in total.

And Penny Lancaster, 48, has revealed she and the rocker, 74, previously considered expanding their brood through adoption during a candid discussion on Tuesday's edition of Loose Women.

Joined by fellow panellists Coleen Nolan, Brenda Edwards and Jane Moore, the former model admitted while the power couple pondered on growing their family, their children weren't keen on the idea, and insisted on 'getting a puppy instead'.

The TV personality, who has been married to the musician since 2007, shared: 'We considered adopting...

'But having discussed it with the little ones they said they loved out little brood the way that it is and there might have been too much of an age gap. So we're getting a puppy instead', she added.

Penny went on to explain that although the couple have space for another child and felt they had 'extra love and fun' to offer, they had to take the feelings of their own children into account before making the decision.

A curious Jane, 57, asked: 'Would Rod really have been up for adopting? Because he's got quite a few children.'

'Eight all together but we're fortunate enough to have big house there's a spare room, extra love and fun that families need', the photographer shared.

'And we thought why not give another child that needs a home, but it has to be a consideration of the whole family not just Rod and I so we decided on a puppy instead.'

As for their new pet pooch, she revealed the family have opted for a labradoodle, a labrador and poodle cross.

She said: 'It's a mix between a lab and a poodle so it's a labradoodle... it's a girl and it's blonde so we think [we'll call her] Blondie.'

Sailing hitmaker Penny previously praised his wife of eleven years for bringing his eight children from five different relationships together. 

At the age of 18, Rod fathered his first child Sarah Streeter, with art student Susannah Boffey, and she was raised by adoptive parents.

He then went on to marry Alana Hamilton, now 73, and the duo became parents to Kimberley, 39, and Sean Stewart, 38.

Following their separation, the Baby Jane belter welcomed daughter Ruby, 30, with model ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg, now 58.

His second marriage was to New Zealand model Rachel Hunter, 48, from 1990 to 2006, with whom he shares son Liam, 23, and daughter Renée, 26.
