Former Duke superstar Zion Williamson shed tears and credited his mother moments after he was announced as the first overall selection by the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA Draft on Thursday. 'I don't know what to say,' a choked-up Williamson told ESPN after he was selected in the draft, which is being held this year at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. 'I didn't think I'd be in this position, my mom sacrificed a lot for me,' the former Duke forward said.

Corey Scott was called as a prosecution witness on Thursday in the case against Edward Gallagher. Gallagher has been charged with murdering the young ISIS militant by stabbing him in the neck but he denies it and claim she is being set up. Two other SEALs have already testified against him, claiming he premeditated the murder and also shot at Iraqi civilians in Mosul in 2017. On Thursday, Scott stunned the Navy court in San Diego by saying that while Gallagher stabbed the militant twice in the neck, he is the one who actually killed him. He claims that Gallagher opened the militant's throat by cutting it to allow him to breathe because he had suffered a collapsed lung. He says he put his fingers over the opening to kill him. It is not yet clear why.

Authorities say 42-year-old Marion Wilson Jr. was pronounced dead Thursday. In a final statement Wilson Jr is said to have insisted he had not killed anyone. He was given an injection of the sedative pentobarbital in a Jackson prison. Wilson and Robert Earl Butts Jr. were convicted of murder and sentenced to death in the 1996 killing of 24-year-old Donovan Corey Parks in Milledgeville. The U.S. Supreme Court had earlier rejected the request to block the execution.

Lunden Alex Roberts, 28, (not pictured) filed the lawsuit in Batesville, Alabama, last month. It names Biden, 49, (left) as the father of a baby she gave birth to in August 2018, when he was still in a relationship with his late brother Beau's widow Hallie (both pictured right). Roberts would have become pregnant in the fall of 2017, around seven months after Hunter and Hallie confirmed their controversial romance. Her lawsuit gives no detail of how she allegedly met the presidential candidate's son and it offers no insight into their apparent relationship other than that they were 'in one'.

Retired NYPD detective Luis Alvarez was set to undertake his 69th round of chemotherapy on Wednesday in a brave effort to battle his advanced-stage colorectal cancer diagnosis. However the previous succession of grueling treatments appeared to have taken its toll on the 53-year-old's body, with doctors issuing the heartbreaking news that his liver was starting to rapidly fail.

George Takei on Thursday rushed to the defense of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez once again, just two days after saying that he has been inside two concentration camps in the US. 'I know what concentration camps are. I was inside two of them, in America. And yes, we are operating such camps again,' the American actor tweeted Tuesday. It was in in response to the New York Congresswoman earlier this week charging that President Donald Trump had created 'concentration camps' on the U.S.-Mexico border with his zero tolerance policy.

Photographer Sheron Rupp grew up in central Ohio during the 50s and 60s when 'most women thought they would grow up and become a housewife and have children. I certainly didn't go that route,' she told DailyMail.com. After college, where she studied sociology and psychology, she moved to the East Coast and worked in publishing for many years. In her late 1970s and now in her 30s, Rupp changed careers and graduated with a master's degree in photography. Soon after, she traveled alone, equipped only with her camera, to small towns in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington, Montana, around western Massachusetts where she now lives, and Arkansas. From the early 1980s until 2008, Rupp took pictures of the people, cars, yards and landscapes of these out-of-the-way places around the country, which are often stereotyped as impoverished and backwards. The images, above, are now part of a new book, 'Taken From Memory,' which both chronicles rural America and the country's small towns but also, for Rupp, has a 'a personal nature to it.' Rupp spent a summer with her relatives in Arkansas in the late 1940s, and she realized later on that she was partly propelled to take the images because of that formative childhood experience and her upbringing. In the book's introduction, she wrote: 'I remember that Arkansas summer as a poem wrought true. It resonated with what I chose to photograph years later and made me wonder why I felt "at home" with some of the folks in my pictures.'

More than 18-years-on from Ashley Ellerin's (bottom right) murder, the jury were provided with an up-close look at the crime scene as two vans descended on the Pinehurst Road home on Thursday afternoon. The group's grisly day out included a guided tour of the property's exterior (shown right), where police detectives Tom Small and Mark Lillienfeld pointed out the spot in which Ellerin was found lying on the floor outside of her bathroom, having suffered a staggering 47 stab wounds.

Lily Romero (right), 27, was the first Albuquerque resident to be charged with DWI while riding an electric scooter. Police allege she was riding the wrong way down a one-way street while drunk. 'Get a real job you f****** d*** head,' Romero is filmed (left) yelling at police after she was pulled over on the evening of May 29. After being stopped, Romero told police that she was returning from a bar, where she drank two beers. In the police complaint, officers allege that they could smell alcohol on her breath. In the video, the officer is seen trying to explain to Romero why she is being pulled over despite her not driving a car.

Robert Kraft was spotted enjoying a little tennis and the company of a much younger women earlier this month during a trip to the City of Lights. The mystery blond is New York City doctor Dana Blumberg, who has been see with Kraft multiple times in the past, inducing at a 2017 event for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. That event took place around he same time that Monarch, the daughter of Kraft's girlfriend Rick lander, was born. Blumberg was seen holding hands with the billionaire and petting his thigh while they watched the French Open final between Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem alongside Discovery Channel CEO David Zaslav and Woody Harrelson.

Twitter user Amy Pennza (center), from Kirtland, Ohio, responded to a tweet from Jimmy Fallon that asked users on the social media platform to share 'wedding fail' stories on Wednesday. The mother-of-four shared a photo (left) of herself and her mother-in-law on her wedding day, to which her mom-in-law wore a bridal gown. She wrote: 'My mother-in-law wore a wedding dress to my wedding. So, yeah, top that one, Twitter.' Since she shared the tweet, over 2,000 people commented on the photo, asking her to reveal the reason why her mother-in-law wore a wedding gown to the ceremony. In a series of tweets, Amy said her mother-in-law grew up in 'extreme poverty', which led to her becoming 'frugal'. She explained that when she saw the white dress in a store for a great price, she couldn't turn it down. The mother-in-law, who Amy said is extremely generous despite being frugal, wore the dress to Amy's wedding, however, Amy said she didn't mind, as the story makes for a great memory. She said: 'No one who attended has ever forgotten it. And, you have to admit, weddings can be forgettable.'

Christopher Stephan Lewis (inset), 19, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after he allegedly drove away from a traffic stop and dragged a Florida state trooper 100 feet. Lewis was a passenger in a car that fled a traffic stop in Orlando at around 3am on Thursday before it was forced to stop at a train crossing. The male driver, 22-year-old Elijah Wilson, fled on foot but returned after the train passed and attempted to get back in as Trooper Victor Rivera tried to tackle him. Meanwhile, Lewis shifted to the driver's seat and drove off, dragging both men, the spokeswoman said.

Country singer Granger Smith has tearfully spoken about the death of his youngest son, three-year-old River, in a tragic drowning accident. River drowned in the pool at the family's home in Georgetown, Texas, (seen bottom right) earlier this month. On Wednesday, the 39-year-old country singer took to social media to share an update on how he and his wife and his wife Amber (seen speaking together left) are doing as well as to share the details about their final moments with their son. In a YouTube video titled Finding Light In Our Darkest Time, Smith said he remembered thinking to himself just before the accident: 'Soak up this moment because it's not going to last. Between 30 seconds and three minutes, we don't know, Amber and I are inside our pool gate doing CPR on our son.' Granger is pictured with his son top right.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are to break away from the Royal Foundation in what is seen as the final step in the division of the couples' public duties. It follows reports over the past year of a rift, first between Kate and Meghan, and then between future king Prince William and his younger brother, Harry. But sources denied there was a feud, saying it was 'largely about preparing both couples for their future roles, which are obviously on divergent tracks'. William, Kate, Harry and Meghan's joint Royal Foundation venture was intended to harness the star power of the four high-profile royals, but it lasted just 16 months. After their first appearance as a foursome at the first Royal Foundation forum in London in February 2018 (inset), they were dubbed the Fab Four. However, although the inaugural event was billed as an annual affair, just the single engagement took place. The adorable Pavlovian reaction leaves the mini Golden Doodle's owners in stitches as little Ruby waits for her treat excitedly. The unnamed owner, from Springfield, Missouri, said: 'Ruby, our mini Golden doodle, enjoys surveying our front yard from the living room window for passer-by's, squirrels, and birds'. But when the couple began teasing with popcorn, Ruby turns around immediately fixing her gaze on the treat. Eventually, the couple give in and hand Ruby the treat before collapsing into the chair in hysterics. The owner added: 'I had to pull out my camera and capture the moment for ourselves. We couldn't stop laughing while she was doing it or after watching the video!'

A Utah man came home after a night out to find a female stranger drinking beer in his apartment and wearing clothes he just bought.Ryan Spurlock returned to his North Salt Lake apartment at 4 am on Wednesday morning and was stunned to find a woman, who was apparently homeless, staring back at him in his living room.Bizarrely, she had placed her shoes neatly by the door and once she got in, she took a beer from the fridge and opened it.He told Fox 13: 'I walked straight in and she was standing right here on the counter just looking at me.'I was looking right at her and a homeless girl was just looking right at me.'It felt like a dream, honestly. Even when I laid down, it didn't feel real,' he said. Spurlock said she took new clothes he bought from a bag that was on his kitchen counter and wore them.

Researchers from the University of St Andrews worked with three young grey seals from birth to determine their natural repertoire. They were then trained to copy new sounds, such as vowels and melodies, by changing their formants, the parts of human speech sounds that encode most of the information that we convey to each other. One seal, named Zola, was 'particularly good' at the musical side of things - correctly copying up to 10 notes of songs including the classic lullaby. Now scientists working on disorders can use seals as a new model system to study the 'nature vs. nurture' element of our speech development.

Graham, 31, shared on her Instagram Stories an email she received on Tuesday. The email was from a man named Sterling, who was upset Graham was in an interracial marriage with her husband, Justin Ervin. 'Race mixing is evil and against nature,' the man cruelly wrote. He then hoped that Graham and her husband would get divorced so she would then have 'white' babies with another man. This comes after the model said a man spit at Ervin in Italy because he's black.

Mortimer, a three-year-old bulldog whose owner, Emily Shanahan, lives in Wellesley, Massachusetts, is recovering after having surgery to remove 19 pacifiers from his stomach. It started in April when the Wellesley family noticed that Mortimer started getting nauseous before meals. His owner, Emily Shanahan, brought Mortimer to the vet, who prescribed medicine to take care of the issue. But it didn't help and Mortimer eventually stopped eating entirely. Shanahan went to Angell, where they took an X-ray and discovered the pacifiers. Vets think Mortimer had been taking the pacifiers from Shanahan's two children over the course of months.

Wolfgang, a five-year-old beagle with a thyroid condition, ballooned to 40kg after his previous owner loaded him with food and allowed the lazy pup to mooch around without burning any of it off. But attorneys Chad Scatz and Erin McManis, who fostered the colossal canine in May, have reduced his daily caloric intake to 600 consisting of lean turkey and green vegetables. The pair, from Phoenix, Arizona, captured some of Wolfgang's new fitness routine on camera which shows the hefty hound swimming in the pool and going for power walks.

This adorable lion cub brought out his dad's softer side, as the pair embraced in a touching hug during a real life Lion King moment. Photographer Sabine Bernert, 53, from Paris, was documenting wildlife in Masai Mara, Kenya, when she captured the adorable sequence. Her images show the father gazing around his territory in the plains before his cubs sneak into the long grass, pretending to attack him. Sabine captured the moment in the early hours of the morning while documenting wildlife for a children's book. Pictured (top right inset) is Mufasa and Simba in the Disney classic the Lion King during a similar moment in the movie.
