'I feel so connected to her': Zendaya says she's 'very similar' to Rue, her character in controversial sex and drugs fuelled teen drama Euphoria

Actress Zendaya stars in Euphoria, the new HBO teen drama causing controversy and breaking boundaries.

And the 22-year-old says that she has never felt more 'captured' by a role in her career as she has that of drug-addicted Rue, who she plays in the risque series.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, the star said:  'In many ways it's the way my brain works as well. I just felt so connected to her, even though we have very different lives. For some reason I feel very similar to her.'

Look proper like Zendaya in an Alexandre Vauthier jacket

Zendaya touched down in London looking the epitome of British heritage style for the Spiderman photocall!

The actress opted for an elegant ensemble, teaming her houndstooth blazer with a pie crust collar shirt, a regal neck scarf, tailored trousers and courts. Naturally no English dandy look would be complete without a waistcoat - not to mention the pocket watch and pipe we can only presume are tucked into one of those pockets? Goals!

Zendaya's outfit is by legendary designer Alexandre Vauthier, and while the look isn't currently available to buy, the internet has got in on the act early.

No need to hunt around though, as we've done the hard work for you, meaning you'll have more time to spend watching Country File and The Antiques Roadshow.

The American actress added that while the show features sex, drugs and racy story-lines, she believes it simply reflects reality.

'The stories in the show aren't that crazy, they're not that far-fetched or wild because they're true and honest.

'It only surprises people because our characters are so young, but that doesn't mean it's not happening,' she told the publication.

In Euphoria, Zendaya plays 17-year-old Rue Bennett, a troubled teenager who is just returning home from a stint in rehab, after a near-fatal overdose.

Rue was born just three days after the 9/11 attacks, to a stable family with two supportive parents and an adoring little sister (Storm Reid).

As Rue explains in her opening voice over, she got hooked on Valium at just 11 years of age, and while little is known about the incident that landed her in rehab, her younger sister (who idolizes her) found her after her overdose.

While Zendaya's Rue character isn't involved in any of the sexual activity on display in the show, the actress did warn her followers about the show's graphic nature.

The actress took to Twitter and Instagram last week with a brief message warning fans that Euphoria is not for the faint of heart.

'Just a reminder before tonight's premiere, that Euphoria is for mature audiences,' Zendaya began. 'It's a raw and honest portrait of addiction, anxiety and the difficulties of navigating life today.'

'There are scenes that are graphic, hard to watch and can be triggering. Please only watch if you feel you can handle it. Do what's best for you. I will still love you and feel your support. Love, Daya,' she concluded.
