The Hills was one of the most popular shows of reality TV's golden age.
But star Brody Jenner revealed how his old reality show Princes Of Malibu was the inspiration for the whole era during a sit down with DailyMailTV Monday.
The California socialite, 35, credited he and Spencer Pratt's early Fox reality show with starting the trend, even going as far as to say that the 2005 series was the inspiration for the iconic Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

While talking to DailyMailTV's Alicia Quarles, Brody admitted how he and Spencer's show was the precursor for the reality TV universe we know today.
Despite her tumultuous relationship with her brother Spencer, Stephanie Pratt didn't hesitate to champion he and Brody as reality pioneers.
'Brody and Spencer had the first reality TV show ever, called The Princes Of Malibu,' she told the show, adding: 'They were actually on TV before the Kardashians and Jenners.'

'Actually we had a wrap party for Princes Of Malibu... I'm almost positive that's when Kris saw what was going on at our thing and was like "Hey, this would be a great idea for our family."'
At the time of Princes, Kris was married to Brody's father, Caitlyn Jenner.

While he's had plenty experience in front of the camera, Brody was reluctant to come back to the show, whose original run lasted for six seasons.
'Opening cameras up to our life when everything is going so well is scary,' he admitted.
But talking about his experience back in The Hills: New Beginnings, Brody was levelheaded.
'It was fun at times,' Brody said apprehensively. 'There were some heated moment, I'm gonna say.'
'It's really fun it's like getting to know each other in a new light... way more dramatic this time around,' fellow star Audrina Patridge explained.
Asked how 'real' the drama was, the castmates declared in unison: 'It's really real.'
Standby Frankie Delgado explained the cast's commitment, telling Alicia how 'Everybody opened up their houses, their families' for the series.

Spencer gave actress turned reality star Mischa the ultimate compliment, telling DailyMailTV 'Mischa Barton is the reason The Hills existed,' referencing her time on The OC, the show that inspired Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County - which was the prequel to The Hills.
Meanwhile his wife Heidi explained what Brandon brought to the table.
'Brandon's great too and he really opened up and brings that youth,' the mom-of-one said about the 23-year-old celebuspawn.
Lee said he was surprised by the amount of drama that still remained, laughing as he told Alicia: 'I didn't think it'd be as crazy as it was... as hectic. There's definitely a lot of baggage that people have to deal with.'

And while he was willing to put everything out there, he told DailyMailTV that it was an adjustment.
'[Dating] was kind of the one thing, I was like "Wow this is happening on TV right now?" In front of a million people?'
Relationships also seemed to be on the mind for former flames Audrina and Justin Bobby Brescia, who were reunited for the first time since their relationship during the series.
Despite his poor behavior in the past, it looked like Patridge was willing to give him one last chance.
'You look pretty good together,' DailyMailTV's Alicia said, coaxing a chorus of 'Ooooo's' from the rest of the cast.

No time like the present: Justin explained their dynamic a bit, telling DailyMailTV: 'We did go through that for such a long time and then you just see us back, kind of setting off, seeing how we are'
Keeping her cards close to the chest, Audrina responded with a simple yet sassy: 'Thank you.'

But it seemed that the duo were very much together after Spencer Pratt wondered aloud about their future plans.

Though the cast used to be known for their hard partying ways, things have changed for the group, many of whom who are now in family mode.
