A 17-year-old boy who was thought to be missing by his family has been arrested and charged with the shooting death of his father.

Anthony Templet was taken from his Houston home by his 'violent' father, Burt, when he was just five years old.

His family said they last saw him with Burt Templet in 2008.

Anthony is now being held at a juvenile facility in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for allegedly shooting his father three times after an argument, according to WAFB.

The teen told East Baton Rouge Sheriff deputies that his dad got drunk and started a fight with him.

Anthony said he grabbed two handguns in case one failed to fire and shot his father three times, according to deputies.

Authorities said Anthony then called 911. Burt had gunshot wounds to the head and torso when he was taken to the hospital.

He died from his injuries a few days later.

Anthony's sister, Natasha, told the station that she and their family have been waiting to hear if the teen was alive.

'He has been secluded and abused all these years by his own father. My brave brother had to defend himself for the last time against that evil man.'

Court records show that Burt was charged with assault three times between 2001 and 2002. Two of the cases were dismissed.

Burt's ex-wife filed for a protective order just months before the family saw Anthony for the last time.

Natasha told the station: 'Burt and my mom were together for about ten years and it was extremely violent.

'I can only imagine what Anthony’s been through. When he was a baby, Burt would hold him in his arms while abusing my mother.'

The boy's father eventually remarried, but that woman left him earlier this year.

According to Natasha, Anthony 'has been secluded and abused all these years by his own father'. The shooting reportedly occurred at this home on 17652 Gray Moss Avenue in Baton Rouge

She also filed for a protective order against his father after he allegedly knocked out several of her teeth.

According to Anthony's sister, they posted missing persons flyers around Houston when he was taken from them in 2008.

The missing posters had photos of both Anthony and Burt on them.

District Attorney Hillar Moore told WAFB that his office has spoken with several of Anthony's family members.

Hillar said his office will be reviewing information received from the relatives before 'deciding what action to take'.

For now, Anthony is being held on the manslaughter charge.

But it is possible for a grand jury to up the charge to murder or decide it was self-defense and let him go free.
