Barack Obama continues to enjoy his leisurely time out of office as he and his family joined George and Amal Clooney on a boat near his mansion in scenic northern Italy on Sunday.

The former leader of the free world and Clooney looked to be headed to some formal event as they were wearing suits without ties.

They were likely on their way to a charity dinner for The Clooney Foundation for Justice, Hollywood Life reported.

The foundation, founded by the Clooneys, is devoted to marginalized communities who have fallen victim to human rights abuses.

Drawing on Amal Clooney's expertise as an international human rights lawyer, the foundation monitors world governments who use their legal systems to persecute political enemies.

Amal, 41, who married the Oscar-winning actor George Clooney in 2014, has been a visiting professor at Columbia University Law School since 2015.

Her high profile cases have included representing Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange, and the former Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko, as well as the country of Armenia in its fight for recognition of the Armenian genocide.

George Clooney on Sunday was seen walking along a red and blue bridge from the dock to the land. He wore a light gray suit.

Obama was a few feet ahead of him. He wore a dark gray suit and a light blue shirt.

Their wives were also in the boat with them, though they were not seen until it docked on the pier.

George Clooney was a gracious host, helping his wife, Amal; the former first lady, Michelle; and the Obamas' daughter, Malia, off the boat.

Amal Clooney was seen wearing a floor-length floral gown while Michelle Obama was sporting a white blouse and black trousers.

The Obamas' older daughter, Malia, was seen wearing a dark maxi dress paired with leather gladiator sandals and a black purse.

The 57-year-old former president; his wife, Michelle, 55; and their two daughters, Sasha, 18, and Malia, 20, are in Lake Como visiting the former ER heartthrob, 58, and his glamorous wife at their Villa Oleandra in Laglio.

During Obama's eight years in office, Clooney was one of his most ardent supporters.

Go bold in an orange floral Gucci dress like Amal

The Obamas are visiting the Clooneys in Italy, and the power couples set off for dinner on board a boat. What a stylish start to the evening!

Amal got in the sartorial spirit of things, channeling summer-chic vibes in a bold floral Gucci dress, whilst Michelle kept things classic in a white blouse. She paired the dress with a similar colored clutch and let her long brown locks cascade down in loose curls. Quite frankly, it's the perfect dress for an Italian yacht dinner!

Gucci is renowned for its vibrant, quirky and creative designs, and this dress is a typical example. We love the vibrant orange hue, off-set with cascading pink roses.

Sadly, it has now sold out but click (right) to take a closer look. Or why not emulate the look with the maxi dresses we've rounded up for you below that are ideal for giving a nod to Amal's Gucci original!

The former first family is in town until Monday.

Their European vacation began last week when they landed in France and spent time on the French Riviera with good friends Bono and The Edge.

The foursome traveled to Avignon by private jet, just days after Sasha graduated from high school in front of her proud parents and her older sibling.

From France, the Obamas flew via private jet to Italy, where they stopped in Milan.

The governor of Laglio has decreed that fines of 500 euros ($565) will be in place for any vessel or vehicle approaching within 300ft of the Villa Oleandra, which is usually accessible to the public unlike typical A-list properties.

The Obamas took their private jet to Milan from Provence where they are believed to have been staying at a $60,000-a-week villa in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine region.
