Revealed: Dog The Bounty Hunter's wife Beth Chapman was in acute pain and fighting against medical help before being placed in coma

Dog The Bounty Hunter's wife Beth Chapman had to be placed into a medically induced coma for her own safety on Saturday.

The 51-year-old, who was hospitalised in Hawaii, was placed into a medically-induced coma after medical staffers found it incredibly difficult to treat her, according to TMZ on Monday.

Beth was not reacting well when she arrived at the ER, according to the website, and was reportedly trying to remove lines which were supplying her fluids and medication.

The reality star - who has struggled with throat cancer for years - was reportedly in a lot of pain and required oxygen after being taken ill.

She was placed under mild sedation, as she was admitted to the ICU at the Queen's Medical Center on Saturday.

However, TMZ reports that she was still agitated and had to put her into a medically-induced coma; she's now been under for at least 2 full days.

Her husband, Duane 'Dog' Chapman is at her bedside, along with further family members.

He pleaded with his fans on Twitter to 'please say your prayers for Beth right now,' at the weekend.

In a statement, Duane and his family 'humbly ask everyone to please pray for Beth.'

Beth underwent successful surgery for throat cancer in 2017.

However, the cancer returned last year and doctors removed a tumor from her throat after an emergency surgery in November.

At the time, their family attorney Andrew Brettler said that while the family was staying strong, the surgery was 'serious.'

'But she has excellent doctors who are evaluating her treatment options,' he assured their friends and fans.

The Chapmans rose the ranks of reality television with their hit show based around the family bail bond business based in downtown Honolulu.

Viewers caught a small glimpse at the intricate world of bounty hunting, with Dog at the helm as the family sought out and arrested people who broke terms of their bail agreements.

The A&E network first picked up the show in August 2004 and canceled the series after eight seasons in May 2012.

The power couple starred in a spin-off series, Dog and Beth: On the Hunt in August 2015, and a two-hour special called Dog and Beth: Fight of Their Lives just recently in November.
