The pair, who have played Nicole's character Celeste Wright's trouble-maker sons, Josh and Max, since season one, said they were eased into the dark world of the show after Nicole took them under her wing before the series even began filming.

'She invited us over to her house to get to know her before we started filming [season one] and we met her daughters [Sunday and Faith Urban], we're still in touch with her,' Cameron said.

'And when she went to the Emmy's, she had an Emmy party and invited all of the kids from Big Little Lies, and yeah, she's amazing.'

The trio then formed a close bond, which was strengthened when season two was picked up and Meryl Streep was brought on board to play their grandmother.

'Nicole and Meryl are the nicest people we've ever met and everyone on set, everyone there, is incredibly nice to us,' Nicholas said.

In one particular scene, Nicholas said he felt nervous about a fight scene that would require Nicole to push him onto the ground - but he said he was calmed by the Australian actress.
