Paint it brown: Keith Richards, 75, gets the hair dye out as the Rolling Stones make their stage comeback

  • Rolling Stones guitarist, 75, showed off his new chestnut style in Chicago
  • Richards, once known for his hedonistic lifestyle of heavy drinking and drug-taking, looked to have smartened up the rest of his look by ditching the bandana
  • Performing in London last year he sported a mane of white hair, which is gone

His flyaway grey locks have been almost as much a fixture as his bandana and his wrinkles. But Keith Richards seems keen to get away from his image as an ageing rocker – by dyeing his hair brown.

The Rolling Stones guitarist, 75, showed off his new chestnut style on stage in Chicago as the band began the delayed final North American leg of their No Filter tour.

Richards, once known for his hedonistic lifestyle of heavy drinking and drug-taking, even looked to have smartened up the rest of his look by ditching the bandana he wore on stage in London last year and donning a smart brown leather jacket for the gigs on Friday and Tuesday.

The Stones’ comeback follows the cancellation of shows in the US and Canada after singer Mick Jagger underwent surgery in April to repair a heart valve. Sir Mick, who turns 76 next month, was filmed rehearsing for the tour just six weeks later.

And the band were clearly rejuvenated as their Chicago concerts drew rave reviews.
