Cindy Crawford celebrates the late George Michael's birthday by sharing her Freedom performance on Lip Sync Battle

Tuesday would have been George Michael's 56th birthday. 

Though the singer died in 2016, his place in pop culture remains. 

Cindy Crawford took to Instagram to honor the late singer on his birthday. She shared behind the scenes clips from his iconic Freedom music video she starred in, as well as her guest appearance on Lip Sync Battle as Zachary Quinto performed the song.

The supermodel posted a clip from the Star Trek actor's performance, in which he dressed in a similar leather jacket that the Wham! lead singer made a staple of his persona. 

She made a surprise appearance during the performance. In the clip his Star Trek co-star Zoe Saldana exclaims 'That's Cindy Crawford!' 

In the clip she sizzles in only a white dress shirt and black stilettos. She throws some sexy moves as the Heroes star lip syncs along.

'Remembering George Michael today on his birthday with a little FREEDOM lip sync,' she captioned the video. 'Nail it Zachary Quinto.' 

The mom of two famously starred in the 1990 video alongside fellow models Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Tatijana Patitiz and Christy Turlington after the singer was inspired by Peter Lindbergh's traitor of them for British Vogue. 

She also shared behind the scenes clips from the iconic video to her Instagram story on Tuesday. The video plays and shows clips from the video shoot of the models on set.

The pack of supermodels each take center stage in their own scenes that took much preparation and saw each of them take on a different archetype. 

The video was directed by David Fincher and the makeup and clothes were done by Guido and Carol Brown. About the archetypes for the models Brown said 'Cindy was the sexy one; Christy was the cool, classic one; and Linda was the chameleon. She could do anything.'

Cindy spent the video topless in a bathtub covered in glycerin to make her look freshly steamed. While Naomi was styled to resemble a 1960's 'tough chic' for her dancing scene. 

Evangalista and Christy were the only two who appeared in a scene together as each model lip synced the song. 

In 2015 Cindy told Allure, for the video's 25th anniversary that 'Looking back, the message was clear, MTV had changed the face of music—all of a sudden it mattered what musicians looked like.' 

She continued: 'The video had a dark humor. It was saying, If you have to be beautiful to sell music now, let's just put five beautiful faces in there. But when we were doing it, it was just, hey, this is going to be a really cool video.'
