Fashion designer Marc Jacobs has detailed his quick morning beauty routine, while explaining how he worried about the judgments he might face when he made a move into the makeup industry.

Filming his daily skincare ritual in a video for Vogue, the 56-year-old designer explained why makeup is such an important part of his life - and why he wanted to try his hand at creating his own line of cosmetics, despite fears over what people might think of it.

'Designers going into cosmetics…is sometimes not the easiest thing and sometimes doesn’t feel very credible,' Jacobs admitted, while toning his face with .

'But we’ve managed to create a makeup line that people do respond to and do love and I feel good about. It takes inspiration from what I do in terms of ready-to-wear.'

The designer soaked a cotton pad in Joëlle Ciocco's $50 Lotion Aromatique, then proceeded to run the product over his face, joking that he needed to avoid doing it in an upwards action because his beard 'acts as velcro'.

Jacobs then continued his morning routine with the Youthquake Hydra-full Retexturizing Gel Crème Moisturizer ($59), which is one of the latest Marc Jacobs Beauty releases, and its first ever skincare products, to hydrate his skin before applying any makeup.

'The most important step is this new product from Marc Jacobs,' he said, while proudly gushing about the moisturizer.

He admits however that there is no 'method' to his skincare application, explaining that he just 'takes a couple of drops' from the pot of cream and rubs it into his face.

After applying the cream to his face, Jacobs then applied Under(cover) Blurring Coconut Face Primer ($39) on any areas prone to shininess.

But he confessed to only doing this step if he anticipated being in front of the camera that day or attending a big event.

'I don’t probably use that on a daily basis,' Jacobs said.

'If I do, I’m going somewhere where there will be a camera or where I will be photographed.'

The designer then dabbed the brand's Accomplice Concealer & Touch-Up Stick ($32) underneath the eye area and along the nose.

Using the product helped to blend any areas of concern for Jacobs into his natural skin tone.

'I love to sit for hours and get makeup done,' he told viewers. 'I mean, I love to do drag and I love to do makeup and costume. Dressing up and self-expression is such a big deal to me.'

'I’m a designer and one of the things I love about clothes is the transformative quality that they have,' he continued. 'You can kind of be this person you want to be in the creative choices you make. And, of course, makeup is the final accessory in any kind of fashion look.'

One makeup step he never skips, no matter the day, was brushing through his brows with some Brow Tamer Grooming Gel ($24).

The look was finished with hair gel, oil and a spritz of cologne to ready Jacobs for the day.

'I do love diversity, and I also think the most important thing in your choices of makeup and your choices of clothes or accessories is that you're happy with it,' he told viewers.

'Like I get dressed and make my choices in the morning because they’ll make me happy.'

In a surprising twist, he decided to finish the video by applying a quick swipe of his Le Marc Lip Crème Lipstick ($32) in shade Oh Miley, which was inspired by singer Miley Cyrus.

'[I'll] sign off with a very sloppy lip,' Jacobs said, puckering up for the camera before the video ended.
