ASK TONY: I've been waiting since March for refund from Amazon

I ordered two recliner chairs from Amazon costing £99 plus postage. On trying them I found that my wife, who like me is in her 80s, was unable to fasten the tilt-securing mechanism as her wrists are not strong enough. Amazon agreed they could be returned for a refund. They texted both me and the Market Place trader to confirm this. A courier picked them up and gave me a receipt. My refund did not arrive so I contacted Amazon who informed me it would be thoroughly investigated by their A-Z guarantee team. I have been trying since March to get a refund but unfortunately I'm getting nowhere.

What was life like in 1970s Britain, the last time unemployment was THIS low?

Unemployment was at a record low in 1974, as it is today. But when we recall Britain in the 70s - the decade of (clockwise from top left) the Ford Capri, rubbish piled up in the streets, Prime Minister Ted Heath and the miners' strike - we often think of nationwide hardship. It is characterised by union unrest, the three-day week and sky-high inflation. But, economically speaking, it wasn't all bad - especially not at the start. It was only towards the end of the decade that the troubles which colour most people's perception of the 70s really kicked off.
