Shocking story behind brain injury that changed legendary INXS frontman Michael Hutchence

The shocking story behind a brain injury that changed Michael Hutchence’s personality and sparked his downwards spiral has been revealed for the first time. His former girlfriend, the supermodel Helena Christensen (pictured bottom right with Hutchence), said the INXS frontman was punched in the face by a taxi driver during a late-night pizza run in Copenhagan in 1992. According to Ms Christensen the punch was so forceful that the singer (pictured top right with Kylie Minogue) fell backwards, smashing his head on the pavement. After the injury Hutchence’s personality changed from ‘joyful, sweet, deep and emotional’ to ‘dark and angry’. Ms Christensen said the incident contributed to the star’s depression and eventual suicide five years later. Hutchence left behind his daughter Tiger Lily, and partner Paula Yates (pictured left with Hutchence). Ms Christensen made the sensational claims in a new documentary Mystify: Michael Hutchence.
