Six Feet Under… the hammer! Actress Rachel Griffiths sells her LA home for below the asking price as she moves back to Australia with her husband

Rachel Griffiths has made a quick sale on her home in Los Angeles after moving back to her native Australia. 

The Six Feet Under star, 50, offloaded the single-storey 1960s home in Encino, California, for below the $2.5 million ($US1.748 million) asking price.

She and her artist husband bought the residence for $US1.2 million in 2005.

The creative pair and their three children have now moved back to their hometown Melbourne. 

Their longtime LA home is described as a 'celebrity-owned mid-century modern oasis' in its property listing. 

A swimming pool, four bedrooms and four bathrooms are spread across a huge 1,580 square metres.  

The large size makes it 'the ultimate party pad or expansive family abode'.

Inside, there is a living room with a 60s-style fireplace, a quiet study area and an updated kitchen with commercial-grade appliances. 

Meanwhile, there is a fire pit and a huge lawn outside - perfect for entertaining guests. 

The gated home is on a quiet culd de sac in Encino, an affluent suburb in Los Angeles.

Rachel and Andy managed to sell the property within three weeks of putting it up on the market. 

This isn't the first time the couple made a quick sell, they sold their Palm Beach retreat in Sydney for $2.25 million within 10 days of listing it in 2014.

Melbourne-born Rachel has returned to her home city with her family ahead of her directorial debut. 

The actress is directing her first feature film Ride Like A Girl, based on Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup.

Hollywood heavyweights Sam Neill and Teresa Palmer star in the iconic Australian story. 

Ride Like A Girl will release in Australia on September 26.
