'She rocks!' Anna Wintour gushes over Cardi B's 'stunning' Met Gala dress - and admits she had never considered the rapper as 'chic' or 'original' before she wore the show-stopping gown

  • The 69-year-old Vogue editor-in-chief was asked for her opinion on the 26-year-old rapper's style
  • She called Cardi's Thom Brown gown for the 2019 Met Gala 'unbelievable' and said 'she rocks'
  • Wintour also admitted that the gown was enough for her to change her opinion about the rapper, who is known for loud, skin-baring outfits
  • During the video, she also shared sassy thoughts on fashion shows, selfies, sunglasses, and sweatpants

Anna Wintour was seriously impressed with Cardi B's Met Gala look — enough so, that the Vogue editor-in-chief completely changed her opinion of the rapper.

In the newest episode of the Vogue Q&A web series Go Ask Anna, the 69-year-old was asked for her thoughts on the Bodack Yellow performer's fashion sense.

She said that she was so 'in awe' of the Thom Browne gown that Cardi, 26, wore to the Met Gala in May, but added that she's not seen her look so 'chic' before that night.

The somewhat backhanded compliment came in response to a fan's question.

'I was completely in awe of the stunning dress that Cardi B wore to the Met this year,' she said. 'She looked unbelievable.

'It was designed by Thom Browne. She could barely move but it made no difference. People parted like Queen coming through because she looked so fantastic.

'And I had not seen her look as chic or as original beforehand so I have completely rethought my opinion of Cardi B's style,' she added. 'She rocks.'

Cardi is known for wearing rather loud, attention-grabbing outfits. She favors bold colors and prints, skin-baring cuts, and big accessories — which apparently did not appeal to Wintour in the past.

In fact, in February of 2018 Wintour was seated next to Cardi at Alexander Wang's New York Fashion Week show, and pictures from the event had social media users in stitches at the time.

Wintour is the picture of politeness, smiling warmly at her seat-mate, but fans couldn't help but be curious about what they discussed and what was going through the Vogue boss' head.

Regardless, Wintour seems to have been won over by the rapper after her red Met Gala dress.

'I designed this dress for Cardi specifically because she has the ultimate beauty in a woman’s body, and that is what the dress is about for me: taking advantage of that beauty,' Browne told Vogue

Moving on from Cardi B's style, Wintour also gave a few more sassy replies in the latest episode of the web series.

When asked what she'd like to see more of at Fashion Week, she quipped: 'Shows that started on time.'

She gave a quick and frank answer of 'no' to whether she ever wears sweatpants, and told a student looking for advice on looking stylish while busy with classes: 'Maybe you should get up earlier.'

When asked about when sunglasses became part of her signature look, she told one woman: 'To be frank, I can't honestly remember but I am sure it's before you started to wear yours'

Wintour also gave a scathing opinion of selfies and the people who ask her to pose for them
'Unfortunately, shopping, which is something that I used to love, has been slightly ruined for me by people wanting to take selfies,' she said

'It has become a national obsession, and if you are in the makeup department thinking about which shade of rust lipstick you might want to be buying that particular day and somebody is thrusting their camera right in front of you, it slightly destroys the moment.'
