Melania Trump 'told husband Donald that Christine Blasey Ford was lying when she accused Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault'

  • Last year, Kavanaugh was named by President Trump to succeed retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy
  • During confirmation process, allegations that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted women surfaced
  • Christine Blasey Ford testified that Kavanaugh assaulted her at a party more than 30 years ago
  • A new book claims that First Lady Melania Trump told her husband that she didn't believe Ford

First Lady Melania Trump reportedly told her husband that she believed Christine Blasey Ford was lying when she accused Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her more than 30 years ago.

Ford was called to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee during Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings in the fall of 2018.

President Trump nominated Kavanaugh, who since 2006 had been a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit.

In sworn testimony before the committee, Ford said she was ‘100 per cent’ certain that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a high school party.

Kavanaugh denied the allegations. He was confirmed by a Republican-majority Senate following contentious hearings in which feminist groups lined up against Kavanaugh.

According to a new book, however, the first lady did not believe Ford.

‘You know that woman is lying, don’t you?’ Melania Trump is reported to have told her husband, the president, at the time of Ford’s testimony.

The anecdote is revealed in a new book, Justice on Trial: The Kavanaugh Confirmation and the Future of the Supreme Court.

The book, written by journalist Mollie Hemingway and conservative lawyer Carrie Severino, is due for release on Tuesday, according to the New York Post.

During Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing last year, Ford told the judiciary committee she believed it was her ‘civic duty’ to report her alleged encounter with Kavanaugh.

She told the panel that, during a high school party, she recalled Kavanaugh holding her down on a bed and forcibly groping her. Ford said she ‘believed’ she was going to be raped, and that Kavanaugh may ‘accidentally kill’ her.

The now Supreme Court Justice repeatedly denied the allegations, insisting simply that the encounter never happened.

Despite the media fervor and Senator Harris insisting both Ford and the American people ‘deserve better’, Kavanaugh was nominated to succeed Anthony Kennedy by a vote of 50 to 48.
