And Simon Pegg, 49, has now discussed the huge reaction to his body transformation snap, branding it 'weird' and claiming that his wife thought he 'looked ill.'

While he dropped an impressive 19lbs for a movie role in which he had to be 'very lean', the actor admitted to GQ Hype that his look was never meant to be 'aspirational.'

Speaking to the publication about everyone's reaction, Simon explained: 'The response from that picture was so weird. 

He added that many people, including his wife Maureen McCann, who he has been married to since 2005, thought he 'looked ill', while others congratulated him and said 'well done' on his fitness.

Simon explained:  'And the thing is, it wasn’t meant to be an aspirational thing. It was a snapshot that my trainer took and I really didn’t expect the furore that followed. 

'All I can think of is that people still think of me as that schlubby guy from Shaun Of The Dead.'

In March, the actor's personal trainer Nick Lower uploaded a topless snap of the star on social media which showcased his six pack and slender arms.

As well as giving a break down of Simon's fitness statistics, Nick wrote: '#SimonPegg 6 month body transformation for #InheritanceMovie The brief for this role was lean, VERY lean. It required a specific body shape & look.'

Fans were divided about the actor's dramatic transformation, with some fans left impressed, while many of them expressed their concern that he had slimmed down too much and needed to eat.

Elsewhere in the interview, Simon discussed his journey to overcoming alcohol addiction, after the star turned to booze to help fight his depression.

The star told how after hitting rock bottom, he found the strength to fight his demons and turn his life around.

Simon then explained how an ‘opportunity’ came up for him to change his life and he grasped it with both hands.
