Jessica Simpson says she is working hard to lose weight after C-section from 3rd child: 'It's not easy at all, but I am determined to feel good'

Jessica Simpson is 'working really hard' on herself after giving birth.

The 39-year-old singer welcomed her daughter Birdie into the world just under four months ago in March and since then, she has been putting a lot of effort into recovering.

'I am working really hard right now,' she told People. 'It’s not easy at all, but I am determined to feel good.'

Walking and healthy foods are two things Simpson says makes her feel good.

'I have been doing a lot of walking - getting my steps in not only burns calories but it also helps me clear my head and get focused,' she said, continuing, 'I am eating healthy too - I discovered I really like cauliflower. Who knew it could be a substitute for almost anything?'

She said she tries to walk three miles a day to get back that pre-baby strength and energy, sometimes even taking the family, Ace, 6, Maxwell, 7, and her husband Eric Johnson, 39, with her.

The Where You Are singer has been relatively open and candid about some of her birthing struggles, often taking to Instagram to share them.

Just seven weeks after Birdie was born, Simpson posted a picture of herself one of her walks, trying (and failing) to bend over and touch her toes.

'Just stretching it out in my rubber corset. The joy of postpartum,' she captioned the photo.

The Take My Breath Away hitmaker also posted photos of her super bloated feet while she was pregnant.

Simpson also posted about the process of recovering from a C-section, writing in a post on Instagram, 'I think we all get so carried away with the excitement of having a new baby that we forget that we are going in for major surgery.

'Then on top of that,' Jessica continued '...we get home from the hospital, have to recover from the surgery, balance our new life as a parent to three kids and be a wife.'

Meanwhile, Simpson  previously confessed she 'doesn't understand' how she got pregnant again.

'I thought about [having another baby], but I didn't really know that it could actually happen,' she told Entertainment Tonight, continuing, 'We definitely always love to practice. We actually weren't practicing very much that month so I don't understand. We try [to figure it out]. This might be a miracle baby.'

Despite her confusion over the new arrival, she said her children were 'so excited' to be a big brother and big sister.

'They're so excited because they're only fourteen months apart, so they didn't get to experience the excitement of each other,' the With You hitmaker said, adding, 'But when I told them that we're having another baby, I know that they'll remember that for the rest of their lives.'

They ask me the craziest questions that I can't say on TV ... "How does the baby come out?" "Where does the milk come from, I don't understand!" I'm a little bit too honest, and Eric's like, "I don't think we need to give out ALL the information, Jessica." So, I'm scaring my kids, I think.'

In addition to being a mom, Simpson has been having a busy year with work.

She just celebrated her 39th birthday on Wednesday after announcing a new book project on Twitter.

'I have been waiting to share some exciting news...I will be releasing my first book on February 4th with @harpercollins,' she wrote, continuing, 'I have been working so hard on it - I have opened my heart up in a way I never have before and I can’t wait to share it with you.'

Her publisher, Carrie Thornton said of the upcoming release, 'Millions of women have grown up with Jessica Simpson, watching her triumph in her career, find love and lose love and then find it again, build a successful business and beautiful family. She's been a role model, a friend and a big sister to her fans.'

The memoir is set to be released in February 2020.
