The Queen is seeking a 'talented chef' to whip up 'diverse' meals of the 'highest standard' at Buckingham Palace - and is offering £22k a year

  • Buckingham Palace is hiring a 'talented £22k chef' to join its first class kitchen
  • New advert states looking for a cook with a passion for food for 'diverse menus'
  • The successful candidate will be offered live-in accommodation and meals
  • The post will be based at Buckingham Palace but require travel to other palaces

The Royal Family is hiring a new chef to join the royal household's kitchen, a new advert on the Buckingham Palace website shows.

The role, which is based at the Palace, is described as a hands-on role which requires the individual to deliver food 'to the highest standards'.

Although it does not list specific royal family members, it it thought to refer to the whole family as it involves travelling to other royal residences, and even offers a live-in option, with meals provided.

A salary package of £22,076.04 is offered, and the candidate is expected to prepare 'diverse menus for a wide range of events', working with 'high quality ingredients' and 'joining an accomplished team of professionals'.

The Buckingham Palace advert states: 'As you'd expect, standards are exceptionally high here, and every day is busy, so you’ll need to be an ambitious and qualified chef.

'You may have some previous experience within a premier kitchen or volume catering environment, but it’s your ability and enthusiasm to deliver across all sections of the kitchen that we're looking for.

'You’re at your best working in a team, and with your strong communication skills and adaptability, you'll enjoy working alongside your colleagues.

'Attention to detail is vital too, as is your ability to meet deadlines and make sure food is delivered on time.'

Buckingham Palace is home to state banquets, which included last month's dinner with President Donald Trump, and the role is presumed to include catering for the lavish state affairs.

Former Royal Chef Darren McGrady, who cooked for the royal family for 15 years, previously revealed that, much like the rest of us, the monarch is always careful to travel with a snack.

In an interview with Harpers Bazaar, McGrady revealed that the Queen always keeps her favourite chocolate biscuit cake close at hand.

The cake is regularly made at her home in Buckingham Palace, and Her Majesty enjoys a piece every day, according to the chef.

In fact, the queen is so fond of the pudding she takes a supply with her while travelling - for example if she is going to Windsor the monarch will ask for a senior chef to accompany the dessert on the train journey up.

Speaking to the magazine McGrady said: 'Now the chocolate biscuit cake is the only cake that goes back again and again and again everyday until it's all gone.

'She'll take a small slice every day until eventually there is only one tiny piece, but you have to send that up, she wants to finish the whole of that cake.'

However the monarch reportedly refuses to reveal her favourite meal, to avoid being served it constantly.
