Are These headphones on-ear or over-the- ear?

BEST ANSWER: These are over the ear. They are very comfortable and because they are over the ear they block some of nearby noise and conversations. I liked them a lot and use on airplanes and when I go to concerts because of a hearing loss in one ear.

They have a cord you can plug in. It doesn't charge your AAA battery. It's more like you can use one or the other. I used mine to fly Denver to Hawaii and back without running out of battery life, so I never bothered with the cord.

I'm looking for a set of Noise Cancelling headphones to use while mowing the lawn. Will these work well to block out the loud noise of the mower (and still let me hear music)?

BEST ANSWER: My wife and I use these when flying. The ear cups block a lot of sound on their own but the active technology actually makes it very quiet. When flying to Europe, I watched movies and she slept. She had no music or anything playing and it was quiet enough for her to sleep. The movies I watched came through very clear. Excellent purchase for the money and we paid about thirty dollars more per pair.

I've tried using them with a lawn mower, they don't work very well while riding the mower, but they do block some of the noise when I'm inside the house and the mower is running outside. When the noise cancelling is active it does boost the volume of the music, so that could help I suppose.

These are not made for hearing protection. Your decibel reduction is going to be under 20db, so the mower will likely still be pretty loud. I would look at earmuffs that are designed with hearing protection in mind. Some muffs have Bluetooth and auxillary inputs.

I'm looking to cancel too-loud external music. How well will these headphones, or any active noise cancellation product, handle this?
A shopper
on Feb 20, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) is a method of cancelling out a droning noise that is constant. Airplane engine noise, that air duct right above your desk, etc. Dynamic noise like music or freakin' kids will not be drown out by ANC. You will want to find headphones with better isolation, has to do more with the densty of the earpads. You definitely want over-ear. This model is pretty good with iso. The Modern Retros do a [pretty good job too.

These headphones work well for me while I cancel out my kids music; however, I will say active noise cancelling works best when the noise is a constant hum, and works less well with variable noises. Even so, I get the wavy hand motions from my family when I have these on because I clearly haven't heard what they said while they are trying to talk to me.

For the price they worknwell but no where like a Bose system at $200-300. My son is Autistic and these do a good job of reducing noise better than more expensive headsets and I like that the cord is replaceable as my son tends to tear up cords as well.

I've noticed some of the feedback is the same as yours. Personally, I haven't had a big problem with the padding. And I even wear glasses too. Not sure if you can somehow adjust the padding, or adjust the tension of the headphones on your ears to lighten up that pressure.

The ANR switch no longer does anything - LED won't turn on, and sound actually gets shut completely off when switch is in the "on" position (as in I'm listening to a song, flip the switch, and the sound stops even though the song keeps playing). I've replaced the battery with 4 different brand new batteries, unplugged and re-plugged in all cords. Moved the switch on/off while in every conceivable combination of batteries, plugs in/out, etc. nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

If someone were to break the band because their son stepped on them, would the Monoprice store (in Rancho Cucamonga) replace said pair? Asking for a friend...😀

Does the ANC only work on lower frequencies or does it block all sound?
Daniel Q
on Dec 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Like all ANC systems, the active noise cancellation works best on low frequencies (like airplane noise), less well at mid-range, and hardly at all on high frequencies. These headphones do provide some overall sound reduction because they are an around-the-ear type that seals well against your head.

How would these do for reducing firework noise?
A shopper
on Mar 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Noise canceling (any headphone), works best for continuous noise: airplane, train, crowds. Noise canceling is not good for sudden noises like fireworks. for those types of noises if you want protection only you should get hearing protective devices like soft plugs or earmuffs. If you want something that plays music you should get earbuds and make sure they fit correctly in the canal.

How long is the cord connecting the headphones to the device? And is the cord replaceable? That is, is it permanently fixed to the headphones or is it plugged in with plug and jack on the headphones end so that I can replace the cord if it gets damaged?

I have 95% hearing loss. I am looking for headphones to help magnify sound while watching television. Would anyone recommend for this use?

BEST ANSWER: This item is made to reduce noise, not increase it. 3M Peltor earmuffs might do what you need, or see a doctor about getting hearing aids.

great product for the price!
After about an hour and a half to two hours, the pressure starts to give a headache. But other than that they are perfect for my office environment to drown out the chatter all around me. Money well spent

Worth the cost for decent performance
Worth the cost for decent performance. Used on two transatlantic flights. Helped muffle nearby baby’s crying and effective cancellation of engine and cabin fan noise.

Great product at great price
Works very well, and comes with multiple plugs for different devices. Hard case makes it excellent for travel. Sound quality is excellent for the price--if it isn't quite Bose, on an airplane it doesn't matter. I used it continuously on the plane, both for watching movies and just to cancel the background noise. I'd happily recommend these headphones to anyone.

Good value. Doesn't completely cancel all noise in cubicles, but certainly reduces it to a tolerable level.

I would recommend the headset!
I liked my noise cancelling headset. I used the headset on the plane and watched a movie, and then left the headset on to avoid the loud plane!

Very impressed with the quality of everything. The box, the case, the actual noise cancelling, etc. You name it. Everything very good quality. Way above the price tag.
