Couples on low incomes aged a year apart stand to lose £7k in pension credit, while those with a five year age difference will miss out on £35k while they wait for the younger partner to reach state pension age. But pension credit and housing benefit can be backdated for three months, so Age UK is urging the poorest pensioners who qualify to make use of this final window until mid-August to make claims - find out how.

MONEY NEWS & ADVICE
Revealed: The two British cities where property prices fell in the last year... and seven with plus-4% growth
Property prices in major southern English cities have seen the weakest price growth in more than seven years while those living in the North have seen values tick higher, according to an index. On average, annual house price growth across the 20 biggest cities stood at 1.7 per cent in June - the smallest increase since January 2012 - according to Zoopla.
Fancy fridges: From magic panels that show you what's inside to Dolce & Gabbana designs, we reveal this summer's coolest models
After years spent playing second fiddle in the refurbishment game to kitchen islands and highly prized walk-in larders, the humble fridge is back in the spotlight. This utterly essential feature, so long considered simply a necessity, is finally transforming itself into an enviable accessory. Its regeneration is in part due to our eagerness as a society to do more for the environment, eschewing an on-the-go shopping culture and buying in bulk.
Why aren't people moving? SIMON LAMBERT on the 40% decline in homes changing hands (and why stamp duty made him stay put)
Nationwide's figures show the percentage of UK properties sold each year is substantially below pre-financial crisis levels. It drilled into the 40% overall drop and found that while first-time buyer transaction numbers are now almost back to their pre-crisis levels, traditional mortgaged home mover activity is still less than half what it was back then. So why are we staying put?
'Sky put a fraud marker on me and nearly ruined my house purchase': How firms can stick this red flag on your credit file without telling you and cause financial havoc
A This is Money reader was just days away from seeing the purchase of the house he had 'spent years looking for' fall through because of a fraud marker against his name he had had no idea about for eight months. Sky had branded him a fraudster last October when they put a Cifas marker on his file, claiming he had tried to defraud them out of TV subscription payments. We stepped in, got the marker removed - and now he is set to buy his home.
The future of the family car? We spend a weekend with a Tesla Model 3 to test its electric car for the many not the few
The first of the right-hand drive Model 3s are making their way into the UK to buyers, who have been patiently waiting for their slice of the great Tesla adventure. Simon Lambert, pictured right, got a sneak preview of what they will get by spending a weekend with one of the few Model 3s in the country, in the blisteringly fast Performance specification.

Majestic Wine strikes £95m deal to sell its 200 stores with 1000 staff to a US investor
The company said the new owner, Fortress Investment Group, will retain all 1,000 store jobs and expects the deal to be completed by the end of the fourth quarter. The move means Majestic will now become solely an online firm and will be renamed Naked Wines, which is the name of the online business it acquired in 2015 for £70million.

Beware of tax fraudsters on the prowl: Here's 10 key steps to avoid falling victim as 2.6m scam attempts are reported in just three years
An email claiming you're due a tax refund from Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs may be intriguing, but it will be a scam rather than a surprise windfall. Tax refund scams are said to have escalated this week due to today's self-assessment deadline and it will pay to be extra vigilant this month and beyond.
'What are they smoking in France?': Renault's latest souped-up Megane given a staggering £72,000 price tag
Just 500 Megane R.S. Trophy-Rs will be made, and just 32 of those have been promised to customers in the UK. Those who choose the range-topping Nurburgring Record Pack - named because it's the fastest front-wheel-drive car to lap the German track - will need to stump up £72,140. The question is, who will buy one of these outrageously expensive hatchbacks? Anyone looking to spend £72k on a performance model could instead go for a high-spec Jaguar V6 F-Type (inset left) or the latest Porsche Cayman GT4 (inset right). We've compared the three on paper.

ASK TONY: I want to dip into my £100,000 pension with Prudential but it says I must take it all in one go - and face a huge tax bill
I'm 56 and would like to draw down my pension in segments. Prudential, where I hold the bulk of my private savings, says this is not possible and I must take it all in one go or leave it in. Despite building up my pension pot over many years, the whole of it will be taxed in one year. I believe that the first 25 per cent is tax free, but I could be taxed at 45% on the rest.
The last minute dash for PPI cash - but beware the seductive patter of the fee-hungry firms saying they'll claim for you as the deadline looms...
In a last-minute dash for cash, banks are bracing themselves for a wave of claims for mis-sold payment protection insurance - better known as PPI. Households have just one month left to make a PPI claim with their bank or credit provider. And with the clock ticking, PPI sharks have ramped up their campaign to get a chunk of your money.
'It's a ticking time bomb for contractors': Confused about IR35 tax changes and what it could mean for your income? Here's our guide...
Self-employed workers - such as IT experts and business consultants - could soon see their income hit, thanks to changes in tax rules that will be introduced in April. The new rules will force private sector companies to be responsible for deciding if a freelancer or contractor's employment status is correct - rather than the individual deciding it themselves. This is already in the public sector and has led to a big crackdown.
The Aston Martin that's as cheap as a new Ford Focus: Cash Cars on the DB7 - an emerging classic that must surely go up in value soon
The DB7 ushered in a new era for Aston Martin as a gorgeous modern GT car that was rapid, comfortable and close to the top of the wish list for those who'd made some money as the 2000s arrived. For years people have been saying it's guaranteed future classic and that DB7s must go up in value - and they haven't. But this might be the last chance to grab a bargain Aston, says our Cash Cars column.

Where are the best spots to hide your valuables when you go away? Ex-burglars reveal their tips to keep your home secure this summer
Travellers should keep their valuables hidden in cereal boxes, pasta packets and children's toy boxes when going away, a panel of six ex-burglars has revealed. Former offenders said many unsuccessfully attempt to conceal their prized possessions in living room drawers and dressers, pots and pans as well as locked safes which are not secured to the floor or wall.
Energy price cap set to be lowered by £80 next week but households could save hundreds of pounds NOW by switching to these tariffs...
It is thought that the regulator will announce that the cap has been dropped by around £80, according to analysts at Cornwall Insight. If so, it will bring the new level to £1,170 for standard variable tariff (SVT) customers. However, this new limit is still likely to be more expensive than the initial price cap limit of £1,137 which was launched in January of this year as a way to stop 11 million SVT customers overpaying on their bills.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR MONEY?
How much do I need to save for my pension? A quick guide to retirement saving...
The amount you can save into a pension ultimately depends on what you can afford - but the longer you leave it the more you will need to save. We tend to put ambitious targets on our hoped-for income in retirement and then underestimate how much we will need to set aside to achieve that. So how much should you save?
What next for interest rates? Bank tipped to hold for most of 2019, as inflation stays low and Brexit is extended
Lower than expected inflation figures have added weight to expectations that interest rate rises will remain on hold throughout most of 2019. This combined with the Brexit extension is forecast to keep monetary policy steady, with rates held at 0.75 per cent. While unemployment is low and wages are rising, there are still concerns over Britain's consumer economy and business investment being stalled by continuing Brexit uncertainty.
What next for mortgage rates? Rates stop falling as price war abates
Two-year fixes have plateaued in price over the past few months, following a prolonged period of falling rates thanks to fierce competition among lenders. But longer-term fixes have continued to fall, narrowing the gap between two and five-year deals, according to research from financial experts Moneyfacts.
