The Suicide Squad director James Gunn reveals Pete Davidson and John Cena will appear in action film as he unveils full cast on Twitter

James Gunn took to Twitter on Friday to reveal the full cast of the upcoming sequel, The Suicide Squad.

The 53-year-old director tweeted a photo with 24 names, but the post came with an ominous warning.

'Don’t get too attached.#TheSuicideSquad,' Gunn wrote, a foreshadowing of some of the character's deaths.

In the post, Gunn confirms that Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis will all be back to reprise the roles they played in 2016’s film, Suicide Squad.

They will act alongside new cast members: Idris Elba, Taika Waititi, Peter Capaldi, John Cena, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Sean Gunn, Alice Braga, Mayling Ng, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, David Dastmalchian, Flula Borg, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Julio Ruiz, Juan Diego Botto, Jennifer Holland, Micheal Rooker and Daniela Melchior.

One actor that won't be returning, reportedly due to scheduling conflicts, is Will Smith.

It was previously thought that Elba would take over Smith's role as Deadshot.

Cena, 42, will play Peacemaker, 'an agent of peace whose motives are driven by an extremist form of pacifism that makes him love peace so much he would kill for it,' according to Collider.

Dastmalchian, 42, will play Polka-Dot Man, 'a Gotham City super-villain and sworn enemy of Batman who grows multi-colored polka dots on his body that he can turn into fireballs and other weapons.' 

Agee, 50, will play King Shark, 'a super-villain and humanoid shark whose father is believed to be the so-called Shark God, though others dismiss him as merely a savage mutation.'

And Portuguese actress Melchior, 22, will play Ratcatcher in the DC sequel.

Ratcatcher is actually a man in the comics, but the character will obviously be getting a gender-makeover for the film. 

Collider says that 'Ratcatcher is a super-criminal and one of Batman’s many enemies. She started out as an exterminator in Gotham City before turning to a life of crime, aided by an army of small rodents she can communicate with and control. She’s also a fan of poisonous gas.'

The Suicide Squad is currently in pre-production and is expected to premiere August 6, 2021. 

The sequel follows 2016's critically reviled yet commercially successful Suicide Squad, directed by David Ayer. 

Guardians Of The Galaxy mastermind James Gunn will be directing and writing for the new sequel, of which the original jettisoned Jared Leto's controversial Joker.
