The Kincade Fire, which ignited Oct. 23, is the biggest fire and has swelled to twice the size of San Francisco. The fires have left 1,065,00 people without power over the weekend and displaced 200,000 people in the SF Bay Area.

Gomez, who lives in Jackson, was staying in the San Francisco area while on assignment as a traveling nurse.

Emaciated polar bear that wandered into Russian city is nursed back to health

A starving polar bear who wandered into the Russia city of Norilsk, almost 1,000 miles from its traditional Arctic home, in June (left) has now been nursed back to health at a Russia zoo (right). The bear - now named Martha - drew the world's attention after images of her rifling through the city's garbage dump spread online. She has since been put on a special diet of raw meat, fish and quails and has gained eight stone, but keepers fear she may never be released into the wild because she may have grown up in captivity, meaning she is unafraid of people and likely to get into more trouble.

Heartbroken dog called Luck waits on a jetty for his owner to come after falling off a passing boat a week ago

The dog was found battling to stay afloat in the middle of the Chao Phraya River near Bangkok, Thailand, on the morning of October 23. Resident Piengkamol Kerdsomsri beckoned the dog over and pulled him to safety when she found him in the river. The dog, which Ms Kerdsomsri calls 'Luck', now waits on the edge of the jetty every day, looking out over the water hoping his owner will return - and every time a boat passes by he bounds to the end of the pier expecting to see someone.

Driver tries to save baby by THROWING it onto a bridge after his car crashes into water in India - only for the child to hit the structure and fall into the river before witnesses save it 

CCTV footage shows the car driving on a narrow bridge in Madhya Pradesh, India, before it collides with a red truck. A driver's head pokes out the window as he struggles to get one child out. He then stands on the bonnet as he throws his child towards the bridge. Locals who'd gathered to help attempted to catch his child, but missed by inches as the child bounced off the side of the bridge and fell back into the water. The family was rescued and sent to hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Footage filmed by his awestruck friend on the dock below captured the bellyflop from October 16. Death diving - or Dødsing as it's known in Norway - is one of the country's most extreme sports.

Pride of lions killed poachers who chopped them up for their body parts in South Africa

WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT: Two male lions named Jarvis and Tau and two lionesses named Bashi and Tawani were fed poisoned meat and then hacked apart at a nature reserve near Pretoria, South Africa, on Thursday last week. Distraught keepers arrived to find the pride - which had been rescued from an illegal canned hunting farm before being brought to the Rietvlei reserve - with their paws and jaws removed. Police believe the parts will now be used in traditional medicine by witch doctors. Investigators added that the attack appears to be an inside job, carried out by a gang with intimate knowledge of the reserve.
