Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Suicide Squad follow-up still set to be released on time despite coronavirus pandemic says director James Gunn

The coronavirus pandemic has shuttered almost all Hollywood projects, which in turn has had a huge impact on previously scheduled release dates.

But despite the mass closures of sets all over the world, director James Gunn took to social media and revealed his upcoming films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the follow-up to Suicide Squad will not be affected by the delays.

'Right now there's no reason for The Suicide Squad release date to move. We are on or ahead of schedule,' Gunn tweeted on Sunday when asked if he thought it would get pushed back.

'We were extremely fortunate to wrap shooting and set up editing from our homes (due to a post production team and studio with foresight) before quarantine,' he added.

When asked if he was close to releasing the first official image of The Suicide Squad, Gunn pointed out how the coronavirus outbreak closures had directly affected production.

'I wish we were but, as you might imagine, although editing #TheSuicideSquad has been pretty smooth in the time of quarantine (I'm working on the cut right now), there are a lot of other factors slowed - some of those related to releasing images, trailers, etc,' he tweeted back.

Mystery: There's no word on the plot for the follow-up to 2016's Suicide Squad that starred Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Jared Leto, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Scott Eastwood, Karen Fukuhara, Ike Barinholtz, and Cara Delevingne

About an hour later a fan asked whether his optimistic outlook also pertained to the release date for GOTG Vol 3.

'Right now the plans with Vol. 3 are also exactly the same as they were before coronavirus,' he answered back.

By prefacing his comments on both films with  'right now,' there's always a chance premiere dates things could change.
