Postdoctoral Positions in Transcriptional Regulation

Parkville, Melbourne, Australia Contract

About the position
The Vervoort lab is recruiting! This is an exciting opportunity for talented and highly motivated researchers with a strong interest in transcriptional regulation to join the laboratory of Dr Stephin Vervoort in the Epigenetics and Development Division at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI).

Who we are: The Vervoort Lab is a young, vibrant and interdisciplinary research lab that studies transcriptional regulation in health and disease. Our research aims to discover new transcriptional regulatory mechanisms and characterise these at a structural, molecular, and genomic level to deepen our understanding of how transcriptional dysregulation drives cancer and ultimately exploit this process therapeutically. Our research combines advanced genomics technologies, genome-wide CRISPR-screening technologies, bioinformatics analyses with pre-clinical cancer models and cancer therapeutics (Cell 2021, Nature Reviews Cancer 2022, Mol Cell 2021, Science Advances 2020 and Cancer Discovery 2021).

What we offer: Thanks to the generous support from a Snow Fellowship ($8M) we can pursue the big questions in the field and challenge ourselves to think big! Postdoctoral Research Fellows will be offered long-term support (3-years), a very attractive salary, career development opportunities, leadership training, and the support to develop independent research lines. You will be part of a fantastic research environment within one of the top 20 biomedical research institutions (NPO/NGO) world-wide, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and world-leaders in all fields in medical biology, situated in beautiful Melbourne, one of the most liveable cities in the world.

What we are looking for: We are looking for enthusiastic & talented postdocs who can start anytime in the next 12 months with expertise in genomics, molecular biology, protein purification, genome-engineering, CRISPR-screening and/or bioinformatics. Specifically, we are looking for:

  • Genomics/Transcriptional biologist
  • Molecular/Structural biologist (co-supervision with Dr Shabih Shakeel - Structural biology)
  • Bioinformatician (co-supervision A/Prof Matt Ritchie - Bioinformatics)

So come join our lab to make ground-breaking discoveries in the field of transcription, epigenetics, and cancer. Please see the lab website for more information: https://www.vervoortlab.com/ and https://www.wehi.edu.au/people/stephin-vervoort

Selection Criteria
Applicants should possess a PhD (or be near completion of a PhD) in a relevant discipline and have a strong publication track record.

  • Genomics position requires experimental expertise in cell biology and molecular biology techniques with a background in genomics assays, genome-engineering and/or CRISPR-Cas9 screening.
  • The molecular biology position requires experimental experience in protein purification, biochemistry, cloning, and mass-spectrometry and structural biology.
  • The bioinformatics position requires experience with analysis of genomics, transcriptomic and functional genomics datasets. A background in statistics and network analysis is desirable.
