After a slow start, Colleen Jones is fighting her way back into contention at the 2005 Tournament of Hearts.

The four-time defending champion led Team Canada to a 7-3 victory over the previously undefeated Stefanie Lawton of Saskatchewan Tuesday afternoon at the Canadian women's curling championship in St. John's, Nfld.

Earlier in the day, Jones and Team Canada posted an 8-4 win over Nova Scotia's Kay Zinck in a battle of rinks from Halifax's Mayflower Curling Club.

It also pitted Jones against younger sister Monica Moriarty, who plays for Nova Scotia.

"We never ever talk about curling really, so I don't know that we'll ever say anything. We just ignore it. It's like the pink elephant in the room," said Jones.

Jones lost her first two matches of the tournament, but is back in the playoff chase with a 4-3 record after 10 draws.

The top four rinks emerging from the 17-draw round robin advance to the playoffs with ties for fourth place determined by tie-breaker games.
