A former world champion cyclist has been charged with the death of his wife after allegedly hitting her with a ute. The fatal collision happened on a leafy tree-lined street in the inner northern suburb of Medindie at around 8pm on Saturday, according to South Australian police.

The video, shared on social media, shows emergency responders stretchering a female climber to safety after she became seperated from a group almost 4000 feet up in the Cairngorm mountains. She had raised the alarm by her mobile phone at around 5.30pm on Saturday prompting Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team to mount an emergency response. The 'horrendous' conditions, including 80mph winds and heavy snow, almost prevented the 17-person strong crew from reaching her in the boulder field of Coire an t-Sneachda. The team eventually found the woman, who was suffering from exhaustion and mild hypothermia, and carried her by stretcher for about a mile before putting her on a track vehicle, which took her back to base.

Emily Atack revealed on Saturday that she is pregnant with her first child and is feeling 'over the moon' to become a mother in the new year. The Inbetweeners actress, 34, will welcome her newborn in April 2024.  Having split from her Big Brother star and tree surgeon ex-boyfriend Liam McGough last year, Emily began seeing nuclear scientist Dr Alistair Garner earlier this year. 

Australians, New Zealanders and Pacific Islanders are welcoming 2024 with a bang as they become among the first to herald the arrival of a new year with typical bombastic flair. Antipodeans are marking the end of 2023 and the dawn of a new era with firework displays, including from the top of the Sky Tower in Auckland in New Zealand. The Pacific nation of Kiribati was the first country to see in the new year, hailing its arrival at 10am UK time, while New Zealand began its celebrations an hour later.

The monarch, 75, and Queen Camilla, 76, have spent the Christmas period in Norfolk with their family, and it appears the festivities will continue throughout New Year's Eve. More than 100 officers have been sacked by the Met as it seeks to root out dodgy cops and predators from within its rank, as part of a sweeping crackdown on standards, which top brass hopes will boost public confidence. About 350 officers were on a backlog for a gross misconduct hearing towards the end of then year - and about 1,600 Met cops and staff are being investigated for alleged violence against women and sexual abuse. The clampdown is part of a vast vetting and review process of the London force's 44,000-strong team of officers and staff following the 2021 rape and murder of Sarah Everard by serving officer Wayne Couzens , which outraged the nation.

Around 50 people gathered outside a private venue before violence broke out, the Metropolitan Police said. The clashes in Camberwell saw people wielding sticks and clashing with officers. Eight people were arrested and a heavy police presence was still in place at the scene near The Lighthouse Theatre on Saturday evening. In a statement, The Met said people were arrested for offences such as violent disorder, criminal damage, possession of offensive weapons and assault on an emergency worker.

The world's most famous biologist (left) says the discovery of the skull of the beast (inset) - hailed as the Tyrannosaurus rex of the sea - is the 'most informative' discovery of its kind in a documentary on its extraction from the Jurassic Cliffs in Dorset. Dramatic extracts of Attenborough and the Giant Sea Monster (right), which will air on BBC One on New Year's Day, show palaeontologists gingerly descending the side of the cliff face in order to prepare the fossil for extraction. The discovery has helped researchers to understand more about the bus-sized beast, which ruled the seas around 150 million years ago.

Tom Wilkinson best known for playing Gerald Arthur Cooper in the 1997 comedy The Full Monty died 'suddenly' aged 75 on Saturday. Wilkinson was awarded a Bafta for best supporting actor in The Full Monty which followed a group of redundant steelworkers from Sheffield who decide to set up an all-male striptease act to earn a living.

Littler was born 20 days after Van Barneveld defeated Phil Taylor 7-6 in the greatest World Championship of all time. There are even videos of the English youngster, at three years old, copying his counterpart's arms wide celebration in his living room (right). But 'The Nuke' showed no mercy as he raced into a 3-0 lead before completing the barnstorming win in which he averaged 105. Littler embraced his hero on the stage afterwards and in an interview with Sky Sports revealed van Barneveld backed him to go all the way and become the youngest person to ever pick up the Sid Waddell trophy.

Footage posted by BBC presenter Jeremy Vine on social media shows a car driving past cyclist Vine while ensuring a wide overtake in Richmond Park. But the driver fails to spot another cyclist coming towards him on the opposite side of the road. The vehicle and the oncoming bicycle nearly collide before the cyclist can be heard furiously branding the driver an 'a**hole'. Vine then says: 'That's so strange. He's given me so much space, he's close past the oncoming cyclist who is furious.' The incident is the latest altercation captured on 360-degree camera by cycling champion Vine, who is on a relentless mission to shame London 's dodgy drivers.

Dionne Smith, now 45, from south east London , said she is always having to convince people that she is six-year-old Zariah's grandmother, not her mother. She also said people can't believe she has three sons in their 20s because of how young and glamorous she is, never mind a school age granddaughter. Dionne was 16 when she welcomed her eldest son Jordan, 29, who became a father himself at just 23. The mother-of-three said she felt too young to be a grandparent, which is why she avoids being called 'gran' and 'granny' - and instead Zariah calls her 'nanny'.

A new mother gave birth on Christmas Day - exactly 30 years after she was born. Katie Fuller, 30, (pictured) shared her festive birthday with new son, Barney Forsythe (pictured) and said it was the best present she could have wished for. And the chances of them sharing a birthday on Christmas Day are 0.0075 per cent. While originally planning to be induced, Katie's contractions began naturally on Christmas Eve - and she was in labour for 32 hours. Katie, a recruitment business owner from Hemel Hempstead, said: 'Barney was my best Christmas - and birthday - present ever.' An unidentified mother and her 10-year-old son were heard begging for help from a neighbor on camera after her ex-boyfriend took them hostage. Officials said the woman and boy were being held against their will at a nearby home from 8pm Wednesday until around 1am Thursday. The suspect has been charged with domestic assault, kidnapping and violation of an order of protection

Microartist David A Lindon spent months painting Banky's Girl with Balloon before shredding it, just like the original was shredded during a live auction in 2018. The miniature copy was shredded using microblades set within a 24-carat gold picture frame. The mini masterpiece has now been sold to a private collector for an undisclosed fee and is now part of an exclusive collection of modern masterpieces. Previous examples of Lindon's tiny works have been valued at more than £75,000.
