Now it has been revealed exclusively to MailOnline that at the ball a mother had told Simon of the tragic death of her son - leading him to become emotional.

The woman told Simon that her son died on Valentine's Day on February 14 - the same day of the year that Simon's son Eric, now nine, was born.

After he broke down on the stage, his fiancée Lauren came to the rescue and took over the speech after he became too upset and unable to talk.

It comes after Simon left fans in shock with his 'frozen' appearance on a recent episode of Saturday Night Takeaway

He made an appearance on the first episode of the new series of Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly's show.
