Tom Brady has admitted that he was haunted by the New England Patriots' Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants in 2008 for a long time.

The Patriots were on course to make history with a 19-0 season after completing the first perfect regular season since the 1972 Miami Dolphins, all while Spygate was playing out in the background.

However, the Giants spoiled their party by launching one of the greatest Super Bowl upsets.

Brady, who had entered the game with a sprained ankle, opened up on the toughest loss of his career during the latest episode of Apple TV's The Dynasty: New England Patriots.

'We were crushed,' Brady said. 'I was crushed. My teammates were crushed, coaches were crushed. That was our history-making game. That would have been everything and I remember getting to the bus in Arizona and there was not a sound. It was pitch dark, we were as devastated as you could be. There was no sleep.

'There was no sleep for a long time.'

The Giants' Super Bowl XLII upset was set up by one of the most unbelievable catches in NFL history.

Eli Manning miraculously avoided being sacked and escaped to launch a spiral down the field, which was caught spectacularly by David Tyree, who managed to pin the ball between his hands and his helmet.

The play helped set up the game-winning pass late in the drive, before a pass from Brady flicked off the fingertips of Randy Moss.

'I was like f**k man, how the f**k did you do that,' Brady said about the catch. 'That play, I was looking at it the other day if that ball bounces up we have like five guys there to intercept the ball. It's a million to one.'

Meanwhile, Kraft Group president and son of Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Jonathan, said he'd never seen anything like the depressing scenes inside the New England locker room.

'I'm watching guys throw up and cry on the floor. I've never seen that,' Kraft said.

The Patriots went on to win three more Super Bowls following their agonizing loss to the Giants, taking their total to six in the Brady-Belichick era.

However, despite establishing a dynasty in New England, the 2007 loss clearly weighs heavily on the legendary quarterback.
