Adan Canto written off The Cleaning Lady: Talented actor paid emotional tribute on Fox series just months after his death at 42

Late actor Adan Canto's final appearance as Arman Morales on The Cleaning Lady was broadcast Tuesday on an episode of the Fox crime drama titled El Reloj.

Canto, who appeared on 25 episodes of the series since 2022, died this past January 8 at the age of 42 after battling appendiceal cancer, a rare condition that's had a surprising increase in cases over the past two decades.

The Ciudad Acuña, Mexico-born actor's character Arman had been abducted into a van following a botched drug deal in the first episode of the show's third season broadcast March 5.

In the storyline of the series, Arman's family had been looking for him, and his kidnappers were primed to surrender him to Nadia Morales (Eva De Dominici) for a ransom, according to TV Line

The characters Thony and Fiona, played respectively by Elodie Yung and Martha Millan, embarked on a search for Arman, eventually locating a vehicle he was in ahead of a planned meet at a drop-off point in the desert, according to the outlet.

It was also revealed that the character Dante (played by Clayton Cardenas) was the driving force behind Arman's kidnapping in the first place.

Following a shootout between Thony and one of Arman's abductors, the vehicle was seen careening off of a clip, as Thony’s grieving reaction intimated the character had died.

The last scene in the show was a flashback to a season one scene in which Arman and Thony kissed while sharing a dance.

A tribute card flashed at the end of the broadcast, 'In Loving Memory — Adan Canto.'

Earlier this month, The Cleaning Lady co-showrunner Jeannine Renshaw told TV Line that the third season was set to focused on Canto's character, but writers revised the storyline amid Canto’s illness.

'We had it all planned to welcome him back at the end of the season,' Renshaw said. 'It was so sad for all of us and a very, very tragic moment, but we also felt we honored him in a really nice way.

'All of the crew and the other actors really got a chance to process it, and hopefully the audience will get that chance, as well.'

A number of viewers took to social media following Tuesday's broadcast, paying memorial to Canto and commenting on the way his character's story was brought to an end.

'Wow. What an episode,' said one user. 'Didn't realize how hard it would be to say goodbye to Arman and essentially, Adan Canto. Such a powerful goodbye.

Said one user: 'Was the CGI great! Meh. Not really. Was this a respectable & beautiful way to respect Adan Canto & put to rest Arman? I honestly think so. I’m glad they didn’t recast.'

Canto was best known for roles in X-Men: Days Of Future Past and the series Designated Survivor, and his costars Halle Berry and Kiefer Sutherland both paid tribute to him on social media after news of his death broke.

Canto's death came as a surprise, as the actor had kept his cancer battle a secret.

He and wife Stephanie Ann Canto tied the knot in 2017, as she posted an Instagram post following his passing in which she shared an excerpt from the Book of Matthew from the Bible's New Testament.

'For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also,'

She concluded her post on a more personal note: 'Forever my treasure Adan. 'See you soon.'
