South Africa coach Heyneke Meyer fears Scotland may suss out their line-out calls

Heyneke Meyer will change South Africa’s line-out calls for Saturday's clash with Scotland to prevent Afrikaans speakers in Vern Cotter’s team from reading their plays.

South African-born Scots Josh Strauss and Willem Nel were given all the set-piece details while part of the Springboks’ training squad four years ago.

As flanker Schalk Burger suggested in Sportsmail on Thursday, South Africa will be leaving nothing to chance and head coach Meyer said: ‘We give calls in Afrikaans, which most of the world don’t understand, but they would so we have to mix things up.’

Scotland can all but seal their place in the knockout stages if they defeat the Springboks at Newcastle's St James' Park.

Blair Cowan is to be thrown into the deep end and start for Cotter's men, just days after being brought into the set-up to replace the injured Grant Gilchrist.

The Scotland coach has made 11 changes to the side that defeated USA in their last Pool B clash.
