One of the biggest scandals in modern history is that of Watergate. Richard Nixon covered up one of the biggest crimes one could commit and no matter how hard anyone tried, no one could get a confession, so he was freed from all charges. No one could get a confession, that is, until the series of now famous interviews with British talk show host, David Frost.
The play is a dramatisation of the events both on and off screen, chronicalling the countdown to the biggest confession seen on television. Nixon's undoing was a transcript, supposedly previously unseen by anyone until 6 years later.
John Adam and Marshall Napier both bring their own personalities into their respective roles as Frost and Nixon. The play is part political thriller and part human drama, portraying how us beings act under pressure of being on the brink of a total collapse of career and inner strength.
It may not be the theatrical highlight of the year, but is an interesting examination of the events nonetheless. The show is running at the Arts Centre, Fairfax Studio until 5th July.
