Overview

The Georgia Department of Transportation will reconstruct the I-20/I-520 interchange in Richmond County. This project is designed to replace the existing interchange configuration, increase capacity and reduce noise pollution in this area. Georgia DOT also has a second project that will widen I-20 from Belair Road to Wheeler Road in Columbia and Richmond counties.

Improvements

  • Increased storm water retention reducing discharges into Cranes Creek Drainage Basin
  • Installation of sound walls for comfort of residents and businesses
  • More sophisticated and clean urban aesthetic
  • Separation of local trip and through traffic

  • I-520 (Wheeler Rd to Scott Nixon) - 91,400 AADT
  •  I-20 (Belair Rd to Wheeler Rd) 67,520 AADT
  • I-20 (Wheeler Rd to Walton Way Ext.)  - 75,260 AADT 

After Completion

  • I-520 (Wheeler Rd to Scott Nixon) - 111,940 AADT (2029)
  • I-20 (Belair Rd to Wheeler Rd) - 103,280 AADT (2029)
  • I-20 (Wheeler Rd to Walton Way Ext.) - 116,620 AADT (2029)
