A brand new IIT is all set to take off in Bihar this week. Teaching at IIT-Patna will however commence on a makeshift campus until it gets its own campus and infrastructure in place.

A few faculty members from IIT-Guwahati, its mentor institution, are already here -- and are impressed.

We have got very good support from the Bihar government. They have built up this temporary infrastructure in two and a half months time," says Professor Samrendra Dandapat, Dean, IIT-Patna.

109 students, including 7 girls, from all over the country will be part of the first batch here. A few of them have already arrived and are excited.

C V N Chaitanya from Kunoor, Andhra Pradesh, says, "I am satisfied with the temporary campus. And I'm very excited about the campus."

Mohit Ahuja, who's from Delhi, feels "IIT-Patna has turned out to be better than what I had
Imagined."

On the threshold of a humble beginning, IIT-Patna promises a new dawn for Bihar. The state seems set to regain its rightful place as a hub of academic excellence.

after a long time in oblivion Bihar is slowly moving towards its natural position amongst the developed states. In the past few years of the Nitish government there is a marked shift towards development in bihar ... adding fresh educational institutes is the start ... if we are able to generate more opportunites for these students there will be less need for thenm to seek opportunities outside.
