To mark the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights the Association for Canadian Studies in collaboration with the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation and The John Humphrey Center for Peace and Human Rights will be holding a major conference which will take place on December 9, 2008 at McGill University in Montreal. The event is designed to provide for a national conversation on human rights and feature presentations by leading Canadian and international academics, jurists and representatives of various non-governmental organizations. Registered delegates are also invited to attend a special event on the work and accomplishments of the late Senator Jacques Hébert to be held December 8th at McGill University as well. |

Audio Version Toronto, Nov. 18, 2008: The Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) welcomes the release of the report on "The Review of The Roots of Youth Violence", prepared by former Ontario Chief Justice, the Honourable Roy McMurtry and former Speaker of the Ontario Legislature, Dr. Alvin Curling, which calls for, among other things, a more vigorous leadership on behalf of the government in tackling the social conditions, including racism, which have contributed to the rise in youth violence, particularly among youth of African descent. |
