Congressman Stephen F. Lynch will be addressing the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce (NVCC) on “Business Challenges and Opportunities in a Changing Economy” on Monday, May 19, 7:30-9 a.m., at the Sheraton Four Points, Route 1 South, Norwood.

Congressman Lynch’s address is part of the NVCC’s Spring Speaker Series.  The breakfast is open to the public and costs $20.  Registration is required by calling the NVCC at (781) 769-1126 or visiting www.nvcc.com.

Congressman Lynch was elected to Congress in 2001, following the sudden passing of legendary Congressman John Joseph Moakley.

A former president of the Iron Workers Union, Congressman Lynch is a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology and Boston College Law School, and has worked as a labor and employment attorney.  He also earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Cong. Lynch had worked at the General Motors Plant in Framingham, the General Dynamics Shipyard in Quincy, and the U.S. Steel Plant in Gary, IN, all of which were shut down due to foreign competition and unfavorable trade conditions. His first-hand experience in seeing the effects of plant closings on American workers and on local communities has led him to focus on efforts to improve U.S. Trade Policy and protect American jobs.

He then served in both the Massachusetts House of Representatives and State Senate, where he chaired the Joint Committee on Commerce and Labor.

Cong. Lynch currently serves on the Committee on Financial Services and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform as well as the Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Congressman Lynch is a co-founder of the Congressional Labor and Working Families Caucus, which was formed to protect workers rights and educate Members of Congress on issues that impact American families.

He lives with his wife and family in South Boston.
