Today there's a new IEM manufacturer around every corner but the custom market has exploded, with manufacturers both large and small providing options to suit just about every taste and budget.

I own British speakers. I love British speakers. My main speakers are B&W; Nautilus 800's, and I LOVE them. What do I love about them? They sound very, very natural over the long haul, but they don't immediately hit you over the head with this or that. They are not flashy, but they provide superb musical satisfaction over the long haul. Nothing sticks out, and that's what provides the naturalness of the sound.

I have to think that the Tisbury fellows like this sort of British sound, because that's EXACTLY what I got from the CA-1. Nothing stuck out, but the music flowed in an remarkably natural way, and one that I would not have expected from a $600 solid state amp.

Argh! This hi-rez bait-and-switch baloney has just got to stop.

One of these days consumers are going to pay decent money for "teh awesome" hi-rez files...and they're going to feel cheated. Music industry participants need to tell the real story, adress the real problem, and do it damned quick.

It's about the masters and getting rid of the horribly dynamic-range compressed re-releases and going back to the original tapes. And the music industry participants needs to start transmitting that message so consumers know the real story.

At $2500 this is the most expensive portable media player I've had the pleasure of experiencing. It's sexy, plays native DSD, streams hi-rez files from your home network, acts as a USB DAC, does over-the-air wi-fi firmware updates, and much, much more. But is it worth it?

Sorry about your wallet, but I'm going to have to say yes. This thing is SWEET!

Mission Trumps Bias

Been a lot of talk lately in headphone enthusiast circles about subjective reviewer ethics, bias, and veracity. It seems to me a lot of the dialog is about symptoms, and less about the desease...or more importantly, the characteristics of a healthy reviewer.

Personally, I think the most important influencer on subjective reviews is the reviewers sense of mission.
