This story starts way back in 2004 when I first started getting into listening to music with headphones. At the time there was no such thing as a custom IEM and really, there were precious few choices in the IEM market period. Today there's a new IEM manufacturer around every corner but the custom market has exploded, with manufacturers both large and small providing options to suit just about every taste and budget.

A short film from Audio Precision demonstrating the current state-of-the-art for headphone measurements does a good job of showing why we need the work being done at Harman to improve a standardized headphone target response curve.

I'm working on a product review and find myself in need of a little information and was hoping you'd help out with a little click. Don't want to taint the poll with any bias, so I'll ask the question here without the reason I'm asking...sorry. The review should be up in a couple of weeks.

NuForce augments their Home Series lineup with a reasonably affordable and seemingly innocuous new model. Look closer, though, and you'll find the HA-200 has a trick up it's sleeve....

I own British speakers. I love British speakers. My main speakers are B&W; Nautilus 800's, and I LOVE them. What do I love about them? They sound very, very natural over the long haul, but they don't immediately hit you over the head with this or that. They are not flashy, but they provide superb musical satisfaction over the long haul. Nothing sticks out, and that's what provides the naturalness of the sound.

I have to think that the Tisbury fellows like this sort of British sound, because that's EXACTLY what I got from the CA-1. Nothing stuck out, but the music flowed in an remarkably natural way, and one that I would not have expected from a $600 solid state amp.

Stereo Exchange has built a headphone lounge in their Manhattan Store and is hosting their first ever headphone event for the grand opening!

Steve Guttenberg will be there to cover the event for InnerFidelity. Click on to the post and I'll tell you what I'd want to hear.

Argh! This hi-rez bait-and-switch baloney has just got to stop.

One of these days consumers are going to pay decent money for "teh awesome" hi-rez files...and they're going to feel cheated. Music industry participants need to tell the real story, adress the real problem, and do it damned quick.

It's about the masters and getting rid of the horribly dynamic-range compressed re-releases and going back to the original tapes. And the music industry participants needs to start transmitting that message so consumers know the real story.

At $2500 this is the most expensive portable media player I've had the pleasure of experiencing. It's sexy, plays native DSD, streams hi-rez files from your home network, acts as a USB DAC, does over-the-air wi-fi firmware updates, and much, much more. But is it worth it?

Sorry about your wallet, but I'm going to have to say yes. This thing is SWEET!

Been a lot of talk lately in headphone enthusiast circles about subjective reviewer ethics, bias, and veracity. It seems to me a lot of the dialog is about symptoms, and less about the desease...or more importantly, the characteristics of a healthy reviewer.

Personally, I think the most important influencer on subjective reviews is the reviewers sense of mission.
