Submitting to FFA

FFA sites, also known as Free For All sites, are pages that allow anyone to submit a link to them, free of cost and without having to link back to the page. Sounds like a good way to do some site promotion, right? These pages are sneaky, because one would presume that getting your link posted on a site, any site, is a win-win situation in promotion and a nice source of traffic. However, in reality, it is not.

While I personally believe that it can be worth it to submit to FFA pages if you can use a free autosubmitter that submits to several hundreds or even thousands of them (it isn't a good source of traffic, but when done with a free autosubmitter, submitting to FFA pages takes so little time that it can be useful), there are negative things associated with Free For Alls that you should be aware of.

First of all, many FFA pages only exist in order to harvest E-mail addresses from the people who submit to them. Back when I started out, I used my real E-mail address to submit to these sites, and after that the spammers have never left me alone. So, if you are going to submit to these pages, get yourself a throwaway E-mail account from Hotmail or a similar service and give that address when you submit. You could also just make an address up, but some of these services don't post your link if the E-mail address you have given does not work, so getting a throwaway address is the best solution.

Second, you'll probably encounter thousands of offers to "post your link to 10,000 sites, only $19.95". Don't pay a dime for this kind of site promotion, it's not worth it. As I've already said, submitting to FFA's doesn't produce enough results so that it would be a good idea to pay for submitting to Free For All sites. Just find a free autosubmitter that is free of cost and use it. It will not turn out to be a big source of traffic, and the quality of clickthroughs you'll get by submitting to Free For All pages is pretty bad, but if you don't give out your real E-mail address, you've got nothing to lose if you decide to post your link.
