Permanent License Plates For Power Units Register your power units in Virginia and enjoy permanent plates without decals. With permanent power unit plates, DMV will bill you for the annual registration fee. However, permanent plates eliminate the need for annual validation decals. You reap the benefits: no more registration paperwork each year and no more tracking down power units to physically apply the new decal. You can even personalize your power unit plates for an additional $10 annual fee. To qualify for a permanent power unit plate, your truck, tractor or tractor truck must have a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of at least 7,501 pounds. If the GVWR/GCWR of your power unit is 7,501 to 26,000 pounds it must be used solely for business purposes to qualify.
