Guide
This Game Angling guide describes all our main Fisheries in the Region. You will find all the information you need including rod fees, locations, species, close seasons, best times to fish, Angling methods and Regulations etc. The Region is divided into three areas i.e. Upper, Mid and Lower Shannon. By clicking on an area from the links above you will be able to access this information. This guide is presently incomplete but does have most of our important fisheries linked with supporting map systems. Please click on an area map from the thumbnails above.
Seasons
Some rivers open as early as February 1st to avail of the early run of spring salmon. Grilse run from June to September. The main run of seatrout is from June to August. The Brown Trout season is generally from March 1st to September 30th except the Midland Lakes which extends to October 12th. Opening dates for trout fishing on Lough Derg and its catchment is now March 17th to September 30th. Many of the regulations for our managed trout fisheries have been revised in 1999, anglers should note these changes.
