SALMON ROD FEES AND DISTRIBUTORS FOR 2001 SEASON
A state licence is
required to fish for salmon and seatrout. It is 
possible to buy a National licence or a Regional
Licence.A National Licence covers all Fishery Board Districts
while a Regional Licence covers only the Fishery District in
which the licence is purchased. Costs for a National Licence is
currently £25 per Annum, or £10 for a 21 Day. Reductions are
available for juveniles. In addition an ESB permit is required to
fish for salmon on the River Shannon and its tributaries as set out below.

TROUT FISHING
Trout fishing is available on the Mulcair and Newport Rivers and also on the Shannon from the mouth of the Mulcair to Island Point and Thomond Bridge to Sarsfield Bridge. Fees

A separate boating permit is required to fish from a boat in the Lower Shannon. This may be obtained from the Fisheries Office, Ardnacrusha, Near Limerick.
WILD SALMON CARCASS TAGGING AND LOG BOOK SCHEME FOR 2001 SEASON
The Department of the Marine and Natural Resources has introduced a Cascass Tagging and Logbook scheme for commercial and recreational salmon catches. The scheme is to be administered by the Central and Regional Fisheries Boards. There are a series of leaflets for anglers on tagging their catch and recording relevant details in their logbooks. From January 1st 2001 all salmon rod licence holders shall affix a tag to
all salmon
sea trout over 40 cms they catch and retain
These tags will identify salmon and sea trout (over 40cms), which have been caught legally, and will therefore allow for an enumeration of the catch. For further information, please go to our page 'Wild Salmon Carcass and Log Book Scheme'
